I also have a TBI and get partial disability, although I am able to have a small business cleaning rentals here during the season and work from home leading a crew of others who work processing business payroll.

Independent contractor on both fronts, and don't make enough to get into a tax bracket.

And I have other hobbies, such as playing guitar (and putting them together- can't call it building any more than we here can say we built a certain model, assembled from parts mostly- and working on them myself), upgrading and modiying my car (MK 1.5 Ford Focus that I autocross from time to time) and fishing- every chance I get!!!!

Also active in Audubon (Kelleys Island is a major flyway for migrating birds) and am a friend of Bill W.  Very active in sobriety, as well as in the Methodist Church.

Also I guess I could be called the groundskeeper for both my elderly parents.  84 year old father whose to stubborn to realize he shouldn't be push mowing the near acre or climbing a ladder to clean gutters.  And 80 year old mother who has a rental condo.  Turn over at least weekly means 3 to 4 beds and 2 bathrooms that need cleaned and made up.

But my hobbies are a way for me to escape and keep my sanity.

I just read up on 10Q Syndrome and I am so sorry to hear that this has happened to you.  My best regards and good luck to you Mohkwai.  Mrs. Toshi had a Brain Tumur removed and is now on Proton Radiation treatment five days a week for six weeks.  We are half way there.

There was a time during her recovery in that I could not have any bench time at all, so I feel your situation.  Now with her Proton Radiation treatment of which is an hours drive away and we baby sit our grandson almost daily.  My bench time on some days is non-existent.  When I do have time it’s a half hour here or a half hour there at best.

I know it‘s tough but that’s what I do.  The only days we are free is some Saturdays and always on Sundays.  This past Saturday Mrs. Toshi‘s family came to visit so prior to their arrival I painted a few items of my current project of which is a Revell B-17G Flying Fortress.  I have a WIP currently.  It’s progress is at a snails pace but I’m doing the best I can.

I also have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) which makes things harder for me.  Just hang in there and try to not stress out.  I fine bench time a reliever and it takes me away into another world.  So try to find a few minutes every other day at best.  This gives me a sense of well being.  Good luck to you sir!

Your friend, Toshi

Mohkwai,

I am truely sorry to hear that your daughter suffers from this. I studied on this alittle in medic school and it can be very difficult for the individual, and their family. I sincerely wish your daughter the very best.

Thankfully,up to this point all has been well. Its always been life in general disrupting model time.Wish you all the best, there has to be some down time here and there from being a caregiver even if its 15-30 minutes.grab a little bench time just to clear your mind.It may take longer to finish something, but thats what I would do if it was appropiate for the situation.

My wife has a conditon called "Epstein-Barr Syndrome", which is an autoimmune disorder. She handles it pretty well on her own with some meds, but, when it flares up on her, she goes to bed for a while, and I do whatever is asked of me, but she never asks for a lot.

HI, any of you guys got a family member with a rare or barely known disorder? How do you manage to find time for your favorite hobby? I got a daughter with a 10Q syndrome and it can be a challenge just to relax sometimes.
