After their bold move by holding our personal photos hostage then charging $400 - $500 per year for subscription? No thank you. Everyone got pretty POed after that incident. Photobucket has been avoided at all cost by everyone here and other hobby related sites. At this point, no one will ever use photobucket again.

"Photobucket Hotlink Fix

Unless it's a "HAMMER" i wont be using any "fix" for photo Chuckit.

They wont allow me on there site anymore anyway....... I left their comment page so full of "Profanity that their server melted down and the employees Are startled at any noise they hear.

Their children now question their reason for being.

I forgot to thank you for the information. I was too busy being angry. Didnt mean for you to think any hostility was directed at you.

As for me..... Photo Bucket does not exist.

My guess would be that if this 'fix' works, it won't work for long.

I understand your good intentions, but Photobucket has p!ssed off a lot of folks here and no one has any desire to deal with them anymore. As far as I’m concerned, Photobucket is dead in everyone’s eyes.

I "turned the other cheek" so to speak a few times giving them the benefit of the doubt. But, after this last stab in the back, I will forget they ever existed and they can take the pics they have and stick them where the sun don't shine (sideways). Enough said before I get myself in trouble.

Thanks for the information on the fix. it is much appreciated. It overrides the blocking they did. I think it is a nice thing that you gave us the info.

It's not a "fix", it's a hack.  And eventually PB will figure it out and take steps to shut it down.

It's the latest round in a sort of arms race, if you will, between PB and its customers.

PB wanted to increase revenue, so it implemented an increased volume of popup ads, which people with the free accounts would have to see.  Many of those folks chose to use ad blockers, which defeated the purpose of the popup ads and meant that they did not generate the expected revenue.  So PB responds by eliminating third-party hosting of images for the free accounts and all of its subscription accounts except for the "Plus 500" account, for which they expect people to pay them $399.99 annually.  Now someone has figured out how to tweak the link URLs to get around this.  That puts the ball back in PB's court.  Since this revenue seems to be important, I suspect that they will counter to block the hack.

I'm not defending their decisions.  I think it was a disastrous business decision, to eliminate third-party hosting.  PB must be bleeding funds, for them to have taken the decision.  But a merchant has a right to charge what he wants, and to make decisions, wise or stupid, right or wrong.  We as consumers have the right not to buy his product.  I've switched to Postimage.org, for example.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
