A-29?
Posted by Don Stauffer on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 8:47 AM

I read in this morning's paper about the Afgan Air Force using A-29s on some attack missions.  That is a new one on me.  Could these be old T-29s converted to an attack craft, like a Spooky?  Or, what is it?

Looks like it's suitable for a private pilot with a single engine land rating!  I'll bet even I could fly that thing!  Thanks for the info.

I don’t know if I’d call it bad ass. It certainly is mean, with a decent weapons and warload. Meaner than an O-2, but not as much as an OV-10. Certainly not in the same league as the SPAD/Skyraider, A-37, or A-10.

The Brazillian airforce uses them for the demonstration squadron ( like the blue angles ).  The plane looks remarkably like the T6 Texan II US Airforce trainer.

Thanks,

John

Thanks, guys. I knew of the aircraft- didn't know its designation was A-29, just always heard it called the Super Tacono.

I am curious as to how rugged it is... sure it can drop some hurt, but can it take any? Even fighting insurgents who don’t have MANPADS, its gonna take ground fire. And the laws of averages and probabilities say that some hits will occur...
