I have trashed three Dell computers over the last 10 years.  They, and their tech support from India are worthless.

I now have an Apple iMac and find it much less troublesome.

Dell computers are all that my company uses (world-wide, over 5,000 users, plus most of our cancer treatment equipment uses Dell as well), and my current one is over two years old, with no issues so far. My previous Dell I had for 5+ years, with no problems, and the one before that was error-free, too (all company computers, used for personal use as well. I'm typing this on my Dell company laptop). Not sure why you've had such bad experiences with yours, Tanker. But, I've heard others complain about Dell, too. I've only heard about a few of my co-workers having issues in the past, but nothing major.

I have used Dell for years and they have served me very well. My current PC is 5 plus years old and going strong. My family uses Dell, same thing, doing well. A couple friends I know use Dell, they like them. I will not hesitate to buy another Dell when the time comes.

Tanker - Builder

Hi Bill !

I had a Nikon , Model unremembered . I bought it from a retired reporter who used it in his Job on the Arkansas newspapers . It had more lenses than I had children !

Yep, I had a Nikkormat that I bought used from a newspaper lady. Best 35 mm camera I ever owned. Built like a brick you-know-what.

I've always bought Dells for my business since they became available and the only started buying Windows machines when the choices expanded from expensive HP machines. They work fine, but they do die with heavy usage. I'm typing on one right now.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Poor nigerian students would love. it. I'm somewhat in the same boat, I think the latest Windows updates have kind of toasted it.

I paid $ 165 to have it all cleaned up, but anything more and I'm going to take it out back for target practice.

Yeah, you gotta love the vendors who post updates to their stuff that renders your stuff unusable.  I've had that happen on a couple of Apple products.  Luckily, so far, incompatible OS updates will fail to start if they aren't compatible with the hardware.

So far.......

Ah!

I have a Dell . Now fifteen years old . I have replaced the hard drive and periphials because I got hacked ! Other than that , it has served me well .

It was bought used from a lawyer in Alabama . He used it for his legal work . It took some getting used to . Since the repair it hasn't let me do anything I shouldn't .

It was damaged from the shockwave of Challenger . They actually replaced it with a new one that still used the older lenses .

But I will say this . It took better pictures at 35 mm. than any of my digitals do . I sold it when i was traveling , to some fellow that took wild-life photos for his job in Montana .

My father in law had a beloved set of Nikon binoculars that went to many air races.

One of the optics came loose inside, so with a little research I discovered that they had a lifetime warranty.

I sent them in, Nikon wrote me back and suggested that they had use of the old parts in the thing, and offered a brand new unit. I thought he'd be nostalgic, but he readily agreed.

Last year, I got real lucky. I had a pair of old dehumidifiers that I had registered with the manufacturer. Both were almost 10 years old. Both were recalled and I was instructed to take a photo of the units with the power cord cut and a photo of the data plate. They then sent me two brand new ones for free. This happened just before the E-scrap date.

The older of the two was ready for the scrap heap. The newer of the two was suffering from what the recall was for. I am glad I received notification about it and unplugged it. Got rid of two old dehumidifiers and replaced them with two brand new ones for free.

I once got a humidifier and a dehumidifier for my birthday. So, I put them both in a closet, plugged them in and turned them on, closed the door, and let them battle it out..... Propeller Cool

OK . I managed to find a "Backdoor" into my Postimage account.

I have to enter EACH step of the prosses as I go, and then take one step back to go one step forward

EXAMPLE: I enter postimage.org   Then the page turn's into postimages/login

Then enter :  postimage/login  Then I can log in. Once I'm logged in it change's to postimages.org/my images

Then enter :  postimage/my images

after three or four more step's I  have to upload a picture to a gallery before I can get into one of my 4 Gallery's

To change Gallery's , I have to do it ALL over again ..... It's stupid slow but you will all be thrilled ( or not )  that I can now  post my nonsense again.... like so ...

I think someone "Hacked" their way into my account. I'm still trying to change my password without totally screwing up my account.

Ours has that too, much more frequently. Amazing how much ewaste there is.

I take my cartridges to Staples, actually get money for them.

Which leads to a completely arbitrary thought.

Growing up in California, by the end of the 50's and into the 60's, the landscape was dominated by auto junk yards. Don't see that so much anymore.

My dad used to have a solution to any and all problems. Find the center of whatever needs fixing and hit it hard with a hammer. Problem solved one way or another.

I never followed that advice but there were times........................

My community has an E-scrap recycle program every April. They collect up TVs, computers, printers, cell phones, etc. and they get recycled properly.

Any way, I dropped those, a few old laptops and a bunch of printer cartridges at the E-scrap site.

Sticky key?  Spacebar?

I once thought I had a virus when I unknowingly enabled the voice to text feature...lol. I'd start typing and the cursor would jump around.  Then I'd start with a bunch of explicatives and it would get worse.

Thanks,

John

Apperently My Dell laptop has reached the end of it's usefull life. There was some sort of update and now I cant access my postimage account. This means I cannot post picture's at the moment.

I'm also having trouble typing , the cursor keep's running off into Oblivion and sometimes take's my word's with it ( hope their having a good time )

I keep having to edit my post's because word's are missing  ......

Anybody have some DuctTape ????   Or a "Bigger" hammer ?????

If I dissapear for a few days its' not because I'm unhappy with the FSM forum, or upset with anyone here .....

It's because I took my compootor and "CHAINED" it to the back of my truck ..... and dragged it out into the wood's ..... and left it to die in the wild!

( Watch..... some Antelope will find it and start posting in my place ! )
