Postimage appears to have let its domain registration lapse

You know, it never occurred to me that they also screwed their existing paying customers. I'm just going to say 'good grief' and leave it at that since this is a family forum.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with $40/yr. A person could do a lot with that including online backup, sharing of large files et al. I just don't do any of that.

Interesting to hear Postimage is fixed, but the original hotlinks still don't work even with the new redirects. But that's ok.

As far as taking a paid subscription to host files goes, I had a paid subscription at Photobucket.  It was worth it to me to take the basic subscription at $40 a year.  That meant ad-free access to the site, and an amount of storage for me that was more than adequate.  I would have stayed, had they retained that particular package.  But in trying to recoup their lost ad revenue, they screwed everyone, paying and free customers alike.

In any case, I wouldn't mind paying for the storage, if I thought I were getting good value for it.

It looks like Postimage got its issue resolved, replacing:

with the new domain:

https://postimages.org/

which redirects to the fail-over site, postimg.cc.

I checked out couple sites recommended by others, both turned out to be $40/yr. Hate to be a cheapskate but that's a bit much to post a handful of pics to 2 forums. $20 sounds pretty good.

In the meantime I'm trying Google.

I also use Imageshack, and so far, its been well worth the yearly fee.  Its really pretty simple to use.  I really like the drag and drop upload feature.  

Greg.  For a reasonable priced ($20 a year) site, I went to Imageshack.  Easy to post up pics to the forum.  Was supposed to go to $40 after the first year, but just renewed for the $20.

Might be worth a look.

Once you get the pic on the album, just click on the bar icon at the lower right of the pic, opens a window, click get link at top of that one, pick your size, click copy, come over here and hit insert image and paste, bingo done deal.

Tried postimage yesterday- it seems to be working okay again.  Hope it continues.

I use Weebly dot com for my club site.

The free (weebly) branded one did our needs for a few years, untill I ran out of room.

Tip: use Bricelam Image Resizer (who works/worked for MS) to err resize your pics to a reasonable size, reduces file sizes from 2-3MB to +/- 100 KB size.

Because it's 'your' site, you control everything about it & it allows live linking to sites & pics with no bandwidth or capacity issues.

I fiddled around with the community for a bit - but yes, album maintenance is a bit clunky and its a diverse group of folks with interesting comments ;)

What I do now is upload all potos as Hidden.  Doesn't require a post title

Very quick and easy.  Then under your username dropdown, click on images.  Select the image and click copy on teh BBCode link.

Yeah, I just registered at Imgur, too, and I'm messing around to learn the ropes.  I published my first posted album to the community, then learned that I couldn't add any more photos to it, till I removed it from the community gallery.

Ive been using imgur since the photobucket incident.  Its easy to use and has a nice mobile client to upload pics from your phone.  Thinking of going back to running my own server.

I truly don't mean to be a negative Nellie, but I do have a Flickr account and I have some problems with them which is why I moved away from them. I think I want to find a reasonably-priced (read cheap) subcription-based host.

But thanks again for the idea, and I may end up going back with Flickr anyhow.

I did a bit of internet snooping too. It appears this isn't the first time he kids over at postimage got behind on their bills. This is based on articles I've read on internet so I can't be sure.

I had stuff there too, and right after the Photobucket fiasco. My words are not fit to type, but I can say shame on me for trying yet another free 3rd party host.

its likely you have the IP for that DNS cached.  It currently doesn't resolve to anything and given the recent update on on 4/11 and the domain owner is shown as Whoisgaurd out of Panama and Domain status of serverHold - ya, I'd guess it's been jacked and under investigation.

But - having access to the domain does not give special access to the servers it used to point at so data is safe, at least as safe as it was ;)

In my own case, my image links still appear to work, including an image I uploaded to a forum here on Wednesday (when I saw the expired domain message and got the redirect).  But someone else noted that his image links were dead.
