Val Kilmer brings Iceman to Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun: Maverick' party, reports say

He still has frozen water in his veins. Iceman (Val Kilmer) is making his return with Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick

Kilmer, 58, is reprising the Tom “Iceman” Kazansky pilot role which shot him to superstardom 32 years ago in 1986's

Top Gun, according to The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter. Kilmer was spotted in the San Diego hotel headquarters where Top Gun: Maverick is underway, according to TheWrap, which originally broke the news.

Cruise tweeted on May 31 that production for the long-awaited sequel had started. Iceman and Maverick (Tom Cruise) had a frosty, adversarial relationship in Top Gun, vying for ace pilot status at the legendary military flight school. Iceman's famous line to Maverick was: "I don't like you because you're dangerous."

At the end, however, Iceman told Maverick, "You can be my wing man anytime. "  Kilmer has been vying for the Top Gun: Maverick role since it was announced last year. In a May 2018 Instragram post, Kilmer alluded to the fact that Iceman beat out Maverick for the Top Gun Trophy given to the top pilot in the original film.   "I'm ready Tom- still got my top gun plaque! Still got the moves! Still got it!," Kilmer wrote.

Kilmer revealed in December that he had battled throat cancer for two years.  Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters July 12, 2019. Joseph Kosinski is directing.

Val Kilmer looks like hell though. Not to mention a bit overweight.

I would not have ever classified Kilmer as a "superstar" in any form, mediocre at best.

I really love "Real Genius."  It's a very '80's movie, but it's so much fun.

"Mitch: You know, um, something strange happened to me this morning...

Chris Knight: Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?

Mitch: No...

Chris Knight: Why am I the only one who has that dream?"

For sure - one of my favorite movies where smart guys are cool.

This quote was pretty good too:

Chris Knight: Don't eat that!

Chris' Girl at Party: Why?

Chris Knight: Don't you know that eating that stuff can give you very large breasts?

[looks down]

Chris Knight: Oh, my God! I'm too late!

Thanks,

John

At 58, I wouldn't think he could still have active duty status ? Surely they are not thinking of him for a Navy pilot ?? Hope the makeup artists are real magicians- the years have not been kind- Jeez, who next- Mickey Rourke ?

When I first read this on the online "news", I immediately pictured them both on deck, approaching their aircraft on their walkers..........

PS, I am older than both of them, so I get to make fun and say this if I want.
