It looks like hurricane Lane, which has been threatening Hawaii over the week, is slowly losing steam. There were a lot of worried texts going back and forth on Tuesday evening when Lane went to Category 5 strength, which is unusual for here. It has since been downgraded to Cat-2, which means it is still packing wind exceeding the rating of those hurricane clips mandated by the building department (85mph).
The Big Island got drenched, but so far it’s just occasionally gusty, gray, and drizzly here in Honolulu on Oahu. Most businesses are closed today, but I got a text from a coworker asking if I was coming in. Since the weather was not anywhere near bad, plus we were supposed to turn in a project today, I went in. Funny that mostly only the Chinese restaurants, dive bars, and strip clubs are open. Anyhow, I was able to park for free (never happens in downtown) because the attendants were not working, and I got a free dim sum lunch courtesy of the company! No, we didn’t stop for drinks and a show; we had work to do!
Feeling a little better now due to the weakining of the hurricane, completion of my project, having a tummy full of dim sum, and no traffic driving home!
Anyone in the FSM gang living or visiting here, hang tight! I guess I’d better go outside and clear my gutters now...
