Probably, and so was I.

Offline would be appropriate, but here's the problem. I design buildings that go 60-70 stories. THe ideal structure is steel and it normally comes in at several hundred dollars per square foot. Multiply that in a 500,000 square foot building. The steel cost will be several hundred million dollars. 

A US firm buys imported steel after a 25% Tariff, that's a 25 to 50 million premium.

A Korean firm bids lower, but up to within a close range, say 20 million dollar premium. Pure profit. Korean jobs. From steel mills that already exist and can deliver on time.

Bingo, buildings are now concrete. But those are super labor intensive. Good for labor, bad for investors.

It's not new, Canadians have been complaining about their import charges on US kits for many, many years. Even even trades, you sending me a kit and me sending you a kit in return, resulted in the Canadian paying more for the imported kit than the kit actually cost. To this day, when someone posts a trade, and do not give a zip code or US state (i.e. I'm in Kentucky), you assume it's someone outside the country and will probably cost more to mail the kit than it would to just buy it locally.

Really? I haven't seen that story. I sincerely doubt this particular story has much to do with tariffs. 

There was a good story recently on NPR describing just how international postage rates are arrived at. The orginazation that sets them Is the UPU, or Universal Postal Union, where we are represented by our State Department.

You can read about it if interested, but it's negotiated with a lot of factors.

Agreed.  A number of years ago I ordered a bunch of stuff from Squadron and got a huge duty bill from FedEx.  Like the OP, it came to about half the original cost of the items.  The cost had to do with the items having different countries of origin (Trumpeter kit from China, Eduard kit from Czech Republic, for example), and Canada having different agreements with these countries.  Most of the cost was for FedEx to go through the process of finding the duties on each of the items in the shipment.  I haven't ordered form Squadron since, or anywhere else from the US that doesn't use the Postal Service.

Nothing to do with the trade war, yet.

There have been relatively high shipping charges from Canada into the US for some time, long before the current administration.
