I remember whenb I was at the hobby shop outside of Little rock A.F.B. and we watched them filming on the highway near us.  At the time we had no idea what they were filming except that it was for a movie.  It caught us off guard a little when we saw some police cars that were not from Arkansas.  Later they filmed the scene at the water mill when Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields stopped for a break.  The mill was in a depression in a far corner of a mall just outside of The city of Little Rock.

I always wondered what was in the trees in the corner of that massive parking lot so one day I drove over and walked into the trees, and there was the mill.

Hats off to the last man to drive a Pontiac over the speed limit.

Anybody remember him as Dan August? I enjoyed the series though it only lasted one season I think. I love watching the Gator McKlusky movies, Gator and White Llightning which are action packed and have funny moments. RIP Bandit.

  Everyone remembers him for the " Bandit " movies . Thing is they oft times do forget his other work . Then there are those to whom he is an asterisk . Well, I will remember the laughs he gave me , But it was Grand .

of course I always loved Hooper and Cannonball Run also. Great fun!!! 

He probably wasn't the best roll model for a teenage boy in the 70's, but I would do it all again.  I ran my motorcycle under a tractor trailer, and also drove 110 down the interstate a number of times.  Even flipped my stockcar and ended upsidedown, minus the chicken suite.

Good times Burt.  Your movies inspired me to do some crazy things in my youth, and in later years, I can never look at Vaseline and not giggle.

Yeah, probably won't be another like him. I'm partial to his 'fun' movies- I need to see 'Smoky and the Bandit' again- it's been ages.

One of my favorite roles he played was in 'The Twilight Zone' episode 'The Bard' were a struggling playwright summons up William Shakespeare and Reynolds has a tiny role as a beatnik actor who has a thing for Tennesee Williams and gets up in Shakespeare's face when the playwright expresses a rather low opinion of some of Williams work he reads! 

I was sitting there the whole episode thinking 'who is that actor, I ought to know him' till at the end Reynolds name comes up. He didn't have his trademark mustache back then, I think that really threw me off!

I remember a movie called "Shamus". He just went for it wherever he was. Kind of cute, totally not right. Wasn't there a line where he brings Dyan Cannon up to his room. He sleeps on a pool table. She says, "how do I sleep on this?".

"With your feet in the corner pockets".

So wrong in so many 1970's ways.

He will always be The Bandit to me. I remember seeing "Smokey and the Bandit" at Radio City Music Hall during my senior trip. We forgot we were in NY during the film. The Rockettes quickly brought us back to our location and our chaperones to the front row. They were our teachers just teaching us another kind of lesson.

RIP Bandit. East bound and down.

Sad,lots of good roles,even as late as the Longest Yard remake,this one kind of hits me in a funny way,cant picture him getting old.

Sad to see him go.  He will always be J.J. McClure to me, driving the heck out of that old ambulance.

Loved him in Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run. He was linked up with so many Hollywood females - Dinah Shore, Sally Fields, Farrah Fawcet, Chris Evert, Goldie Hawn, Inger Stevens.

I remember reading about his marriage and messy divorce with Lonnie Anderson in the tabloids back then.
