I lost interest in 5-0 way back in the early 70's during the original. The plot had a character as a snuiper loking to off McGarett. Thing is, the guy had lost both hands and had basically a big pair of tweezers for hands. He concealed his rifle in a guitar case because, you know, a guy with no hands carrying a guitar case is not suspicious. 
I never watched the original Magnum, PI so it's unlikely I'll watch the reboot.
On the other hand, at least some of these people are trying to tell stories, not like the ubiquitous So You Think You Want to Dance with an American Millionaire Bachelotrette Talent Idol. 

 

 

 

 

 

Lol yeah but the '70s episode was original stupid. Which I'll take anyday over reheated stupid.  

I didn't mind the 5-0 remake so much at first. Then they introduced the recurring arch-nemesis Wo Fat and I couldn't see him as anything other than the shiny-suited Iron Chef Chairman dude. That's when I lost it.

It's just made to sell things.  I never watched it back then.

I read a bad review of the Magnum PI re-release the other day, and it's not even released yet.

I cannot see the difference between the new Magnum PI and Burn Notice or 5-0.  its like they pay for one script and then market it within ten differnt shows.  Even the stories end up repeating.  

Thank goodness for models and Youtube.  I cannot take watching any mondern TV.  

We find ourselves really only watching streaming services now. Check out Bletchley Circle, Bomb Girls, Endeavor, Poirot, and some of the other Britbox shows. Even a couple Russian shows (subtitled) like Night Swallows about the Night Witches in WWII. Well cast, beautifully produced, and riveting stories.

I do believe since the Greater Studios broke up and the idea of them calling the shots is what ruined them . Of course claiming to " Own " the stars was wrong , But in a way they did .

 The Movie Moguls of today cannot even develop a good story line .If it isn't a take off on the three or four successful movies of a genre they are afraid the " Brain Dead " public won't buy it . Heck , I even saw folks texting during a Movie so who cares  ?.T.V. ? Unless it's a new National geographic show or Veterinarian show fuggedaboud it !

I went back and watched the end of 'Flashback' again this weekend. Kinda weird episode, not sure it if were entirely a dream- or it had a bit of time travel added in. Guess I need to rewatch the whole thing. I was reading some online comments and the cat the bad guy stumbles across in the chase at the end had wandered onto the set and the crew liked it in the shot so they went ahead and used it!

Funny how sometimes things happen by accident and it's kept cause it looked good. Just like in the Beatles song "I Feel Fine" with the feedback sound in the beginning. It was by accident as one of the instruments got too close to one of the mikes but it sounded good so they kept it.

Another good one with a ghostly twist is "The Woman on the Beach", when Orville meets a very sad and beautiful lady on the beach that night and.........you have to watch it.

No way. I say leave the old TV shows as is. The last thing we need is Hollywood f*** up more reboots...

And 'The Curse on the King Kamehameha Club' where it looks like the club is cursed by an evil kahuna or medicine man or was it? And the cool twist ending. 

I like crazy stuff like that where the plot leaves it up to you to decide just what did happen... 

Hollywood has no imagination everything they do anymore seems to be a remake of something that's been made before. Just look at most, not all but most sitcoms they haven't changed since the honeymooners and Father Knows Best. They are either friends living in the same apartment building or a family in a house. It's rare you get something off the wall and different and when you do there are usually connecting undertones to he originals. Same thing with movies. I think they only have 4 or five plot lines they use if that many.

In regards to many comments above about new shows being no good, I just remembered last night before sleep I watched the first episode of The Addams Family (which never really much appealled to me).

Just realised it held my attention better than a lot of the new stuff we watch.

Please note that wife was asleep, that wouldn't have flied at all.

Yeah, broadcast TV programming is pretty weak nowadays. Cable is hit and miss. They will come up with a halfway decent miniseries or running series, but most of them just don’t catch my interest. 

The streaming subscriber shows can be ok. I have found a few that I enjoy such as The Man In The High Castle, or Marco Polo. I have tried watching some of the new Jack Ryan series. But as one reviewer wrote, Jack Ryan is not Jack Ryan. Aside from a few shared traits he hardly resembles Tom Clancy’s book character. So far his future wife has little resemblance to the book character, and Jim Greer has absolutely nothing in common with the source material. Such a shame.

The wife got me into watching Ozark. It’s a pretty dark and violent show.

I've read the novel a couple of times and it's mostly about the US west coast occupied by the Empire of Japan. There's only one German in the whole book as I remember. But the advertising I see for the series seems to be entirely of New York defaced, um... decorated with National Socialist emblems. I just have to wonder if the series has anything to do with the novel other than the concept of the Axis winning the Second World War. 

I've been looking at picking up some DVDs from a Halloween horror sale at Movies Unlimited. I noticed that most of them are from them are from the '50s and '60s. A few are from the '70s, '80s and '90s but nothing from the last 20 years. 

Maybe I'm just getting old but the new horror stuff, like most all movies just don't hold any interest to me- in fact they all seem kinda the same.

Well, I’ve never read the book, and am only part way thru the first season but....

yes, in the series, Japan occupies the West Coast and inland up to the western edge of the Rockies. Germany occupies the Eastern Seaboard and inland up to the eastern edge of the Rockies. In between is a “neutral zone”. So far there is a main character of a Heydrich type senior SS officer, although I am of the impression that he is of American descent and not German. But then again, nearly all of the SS shown so far are the same way. The Japanese have their Kempetai to perform the same role in the West. There also is some rising tension and intrigue between the two victorious powers, set some 15 years after the end of WWII, which by the series ended in 1947. Locations shown so far are between the three areas, primarily San Francisco, New York City, and some small towns in the Rockies. And yes, the cities have taken on the appearance of their WWII occupiers with lots of flags and banners at official locales. But the side and backstreets have a more depression era run down look.

Historically speaking the Axis framework appears faithful to what I have read of such things. But there has been no backstory as to how it all came to be. Yet. 

It starts off slow, but picks up pace and interest as each episode moves forward. And again, I can not say how true any of it is to the source material.

Actually it sounds better than the novel. The book is more a 'slice of life' type of thing about living under Axis control rather than a novel with a plot. There aren't any movers or shakers in it. Just normal people trying to survive. Which is ok of course but just not that exciting.

You've got an antiques dealer in San Fran dealing with Japanese who are buying up American history left and right- the reverse of Allied troops buying up 500 year old samurai swords to bring back to hang on the living room wall in real history. There's an Italian truck driver dealing with bigotry from the former Allies that hate him for fighting for the enemy and contempt from the Japanese and Germans who consider the Italians dead weight in the war. And a 'Swedish' businessman who's actually an anti-National Socialist German in disguise and on the lam. 

There's mention here and there about growing tensions between the Empire and the Reich but we don't get to see any of it. It's a neat novel but frankly there's just no real plot as I remember other than just trying to get by day to day. Guess I need to give the show a shot, it sounds much better than the ads.

I did like the new "Jack Ryan" (I put that in quotes becasue Jack Ryan is NOT Jack Ryan), and I will watch season 2 when it comes out. It has been adapted to modern times and easily could have introduced an all new character instead of naming him Jack Ryan. I think they used the name to hook people and may have alienated a lot of viewers because this Jack Ryan is not Jack Ryan. IMHO.

But, I really do like to streaming series, and I do want to check out The Man in the High Castle.

Yeah, the show itself is somewhat entertaining. And even if it is a current rewrite of the character, they could have kept the characters closer to the source material. As opposed to completely changing who they are. The Hollywood Jack Ryan films pared down the storylines from the original novels, especially the last two. And aside from the basic plot line, Sum Of All Fears is hardly recognizable when compared to the original novel. But it is what it is. 

Besides, there is never enough time in the day to get done the things that I want to accomplish without watching TV. Today’s programming just makes it far easier to do those things. Less distraction.
