Saw this on AOL,article says AT-6,it is dressed up as an Me -109

Surprised there was no outrage that it was dressed as a Nazi bird.

With the radial engine, I think it more resembles an Fw-190.

It's a shame about the aircraft, but I'm glad the pilot got out and didn't hurt anyone on the ground.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Tojo72, that sure does not look like a me-109 which uses an inline engine wereas it look like a wannabe fw-190 that uses a radial engine like what the at-6 used.

The pic I saw of the wreck, my first two thoughts were a) I thought it was a 109 just looking at the wings and nose, before looking for aircraft shape and b) figured it was a fatal.

Was surprised to read the pilot was pulled out in fine condition. Plleasantly surprised.

I'm with you, Tojo, about the German markings. Let's wait for a news agency to pick up on a tweet on the subject. Whisper

Looks like a Texan  to me with a made up cowl to look like a 190. Look at the picture showing the long greenhouse just like a Texan.

News reports this morning confirm it was a T-6 made up to look like a 190. Pilot lost his engine and dead stick landed on a clear stretch of highway, then got out before it burned. Sounds like a combination of skill and luck despite loss of the airplane.
