I have a book called Hellbirds: The Story of the B-29's in Combat, by Wilbur H. Morrison.  He was a bombardier with the 20th Air Force, from its time in India, China and eventually Tinian Island.  I really enjoyed the book.
I bought my copy in 1979.  Not sure about its availability now.

He's written other books about different units, and different wars, but Hellbirds is the only one I've read.

Cheers,
Mark

One of my favorite books of this type is "With Chennault in China", by Robert M. Smith.  Not to be confused with R. T. Smith, one of the pilots, this fellow was part of the ground crew and part of the early waring radio network.

Several years ago I read a book by an aircraft mechanic in North Africa, in AAF.

Cannot remember the name of the book or the author, however.

Hello!

There are also books written by Janusz Meissner (sometimes using the pen name Lt. Herbert) - "G - for Genevieve" and "L for Lucy" - that tell a story of an airman who starts as a rear gunner of a Wellington, later becomes a pilot and then is moved to a position on a control tower on the airfield. I've read those books in Polish when I was a kid and I liked them a lot. Have a nice day

Good question.

One that comes to mind is Catch 22. Joe Heller was a B-25 bombardier.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

All of the aircraft related books I have seen were written by pilots. Are there any books written by less glamurous positions such as a book by a waist gunner or a radio operator, navigator, rear gunner on a Stuka or B25 and such?
