Yeah, it's sad that the venerable Monogram kit is still the best out there.  I think Special Hobby/MPM also did a 1/72 F-82, but I would love to see modern, steel tool kits with good detail and accuracy.  I have read many bad reviews about the Modelcr*p kit, as well as met actual victims attempting to build this thing, so I know the horror stories are true.

Imagine a Zoukei-Mura kit in 1/32 with full boogie interior.  But I would gladly settle for a Hasegawa approach, just with nice cockpits and wheel wells.

I find it remarkable that they got an XP-82 to fly again.  So awesome.

Real G

Now can we please have some new tool kits of the F-82?  In 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32, one scale for everyone!

Real G, I picked up a Modelcraft 1/48 P-82B a while back thinking I could make it work. Build the kit inspite of its short comings. Well, I can't begin to tell you how bad the kit is. Every time I open the box and examine the parts, I find something else wrong with the kit. Suffice it to say, the kit will remain on my shelf of doom indefinitely. I do have several of the Monogram 1/72 scale F-82 kits. I built one last year and it turned out OK. I'll build a couple more of them because they do look nice when done. But yes! Some kit manufacturer needs to fill that empty slot in all three scales. Soon.

My wife and I are headed up to Douglas, GA next week to witness flights of the XP-82 Twin Mustang. We looked the the 10-day forcast this morning and weather could be iffy but we're going anyway. Seeing the XP-82 fly is witnessing history! I'll have a full report when we get back. I may use the opportunity to shoot some video with my camera as well.

Boy, if I haven't heard that "story" Ray spun a couple of other times...

I don't know much about this project, although the early prototypes did have a number of aerodynamic challenges.

I'm going to follow this.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
