Just got a copy of "The Silent Service". That was the one I was looking for.
Thanks guys!
That's OK, knew it wasn't the specific book, but have always had an interest in the boats and ops during WWII. Got hooked with the one I'm looking for and wanted to learn more back then.
Don't mind adding to the shelf. As to Wahoo, got Revell's 1/72, and will be doing it as she appeared leaving Pearl on her ill fated patrol. Have the full suite of PE and Shapeway's guns for her.
goldhammer Going to have to get that one GM. Thanks.
Going to have to get that one GM. Thanks.
The wiki pages on Harder and Cmdr. Dealey have some footnotes you might look at.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
"On Eternal Patrol- The Lost Boats of Mare Island" by Larry Maggini. A limited printing, but very informative.
Thanks guys. Will look into those.
Greg - What I remember from it was the chapter on Perch was her loss, Harder's chapter was on her last complete patrol and destroyer bag.
Not what you asked for--I realize--but since you mentioned Harder specifically, there's an excellent book you might enjoy (if you weren't indeed already aware of it): Death At A Distance: The Loss of the Legendary USS Harder, by Michael Sturma. Prof. Sturma has written a number of excellent books on the submarine campaigns in WW2, well worth seeking out.
Cheers.
Greg
George Lewis:
Not sure if this is it,but a very good one I had was an old Bantom Book called Pig Boats, you might want to check it out.
Found this on line perhaps it's what you are looking for
The SILENT SERVICE” By William C. Chambliss. The author is a World War II navy veteran.
Joe
When I was a kid in the 60's I read a book that had stories gleaned from patrol reports and survivor accounts of several boats. Two in particular were about Perch and Harder.
Would like to see if anyone can come up with title or author. Looking to get another copy.
Thanks
