Tanker - Builder

Really ?

Isn't it funny when that happens ? I was talking to a gent at a community meeting for seniors at city hall .He says there's no place he can get to see and talk about Model trains and scenery .

You should've seen his face light up when I told him about the New Braunfels Model Railroad Club  , and our home - the oft mentioned museum of which I am an officer .

He then asks if I build model Ships and or Planes and Armor , When I answer in the affirmative he goes Quiet . I ask whattsda matta? He says ."I think I am heaven now !"

I am going to get together with him and show him the HobbyTown and my LHS Hill Country Hobbies .he ain't seen nuttin yet !     T.B.

TB--that is a great story and it warms the heart to hear it. Please update this thread from time to time about your adventures with him. I'd like to hear more.

This is why I post stuff like this because invariably it will lead to even better stories like yours.

BTW. The person I wrote about followed through and sent me a picture of his builds. His models are pretty darn good for being his firsts. Him being a new guy to the hobby I shared all the local hobby store info that he may not be aware of. Heck--I discovered one last week that I didn't know existed. It's a hidden gem, all they sell are models. That and associated paraphernalia. I am going back there when I have more time to review.

just saw the headline "Bakster Moment" and backed up to see what you had done this time. LOL!

Lol..  Buddy--you have that right. When I step into it, I don't mind sharing it. In fact, I like to share it. So, you should always wear your galoshes when trolling the forum.  Yes

I did peek into some stash model boxes last week when it was snowing. 1/48 Phantom still beckoning.

It sounds like your inner voice is trying to tell you something.

Just saw the headline "Bakster Moment" and backed up to see what you had done this time. LOL! Actually just checking on you. I'm still engrossed in the 1/1 motorcycle project which has seen some positive progress lately. I did peek into some stash model boxes last week when it was snowing. 1/48 Phantom still beckoning. Carry on. Hodaka Fan Club/Facebook for latest cool mods and how to spend a small fortune.  Maxie

That is unusual. You have me thinking, guys always run into stranger who like some sports, or playing golf, or whatever but I have never, ever run into a single person who builds models.

That is my experience too, Greg. Hence my surprise!

GM's comment is interesting. Those are some odds.

Have to share this...just for the surreal/bizarre (and entirely unintended) humor of it. No offense intended.

I clicked on your post, and as the page switched and loaded on my phone, the first thing my gaze fell on was the random ad banner showing at the top of the page:

"Selecting Bedwetting Alarms"

For one awful instant...I thought your 'moment' was going in a whole different direction....Indifferent

Cheers

Thats a hoot! Thanks for sharing that.

GMorrison

Next, you'll find out that he's a member here. That has happened to me.

Sounds like a friendship.

Laughing. You know, I thought the same thing, and I was sure to ask. He wasn't familiar with FSM or the forum. So, he is not there yet. Something tells me he will though.

I will be sure to reach out to him if he does not follow through with the pics.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

A Bakster moment

On Thursday I attended a going away party at one of our valued customers. It is always a good time, as they are down to earth people. Working my way to the bar, very thirsty, I run into another of their ex-employees. He was a purchasing manager that retired a few years back. We had a great business freindship and I was pleasantly surprised to see him. I asked how his retirement is going, at which his face lit up and he excitedly goes into his daily routine. He eventually takes a side trip in the conversation. He tells me that he has recently taken up building model cars. Plastic model cars, I asked? Yes, he replied.

I could hardly contain my excitement because he is the first person within my circle that builds models. I usually get strange looks from people when I tell them about my hobby. Now, I have an ally, and one that was in high business standing. Suddenly, I felt little more respected.

Anyway, I managed to tell him that it's my hobby too! He looked at me strangely, then carried on. So great was his excitement on the subject, I could hardly get a word in. He explained what he has built and how he is building them. He even made himself a workbench. Dang... I think this guy is serious, I thought. That, and that I am still dang thirsty. Just two feet from the bar and I am still without a beer. Can't anyone see that I need a beer? Anyone? Nope.

He promised to email me some pictures.

This is a guy that I never imagined would take up the hobby. Goes to show, you never know.
