RV Petrel located USS Wasp

There are a few submarines that are famous boats that would be nice to know about as well, even though most will be harder to find due to vague/missing documentation from post-war records from the Japanese records.

Four off the top of my head would be Harder, Perch, Tang and Argonaut, especially the last since her bell is at Pearl and rung every Sunday in honor and memory of one the 52 boats and crews still out there on patrol.

Would be interesting to locate the IJN carriers at Midway, since Ballard found Yorktown a few years ago.

I agree about Lt. Cmdr Shea's letter.  I don't think anyone could read that story and not be moved.

Baron, thanks for sharing this. And the link to the magazine article. The letter from the commander to his son are most poignant. With this wreck now located, all four US carriers lost in the Pacific in 1942 have been accounted for. Simply amazing. And only recently it was USS Hornet.

Now I would love for them to go work off of Midway and find the missing IJN carriers.

I was hoping this was going to be next on their list of discoveries.

From the caption in the Facebook album, the team found the Wasp at the end of January.
