I was just thinking about that, as I realized that about this time (here) paratroopers were landing in Normandy.  Here's a link to some of the celebrations performed today on the 75th anniversary.

I realized that one WWII veteran should be noted here, and that is Queen Elizabeth II who served in the Auxilliary Territorial Service and trained as a mechanic and driver.

D-day must have been an organizational nightmare. Thousands of troops, ships, vehicels, airplanes. Plus, having to deal with all of the politics of the numerous high ranking officers  must have been dificult. 

There can't be many left now. God bless them both here and gone. 

Exactly. Even those that enlisted at age 17 with parental permission or lied about their age at age 16 75 years ago would be 91 or 92 today. Their numbers decrease by the day as they pass into history and go meet their comrades who never aged a day afterwards.

Both of my parents were in the Armed Services during WWII, Dad in the Army and Mom in the Marines.  If alive, they would be in their late 90's.  Although neither of them were involved directly with the D-Day invasion, I still consider them to be part of our greatest generation (now and forever).

I saw a glimpse of this story, but a 97 year young vet parachuted to Normandy 75 years later. Here is the story. I thought to myself, how awesome is that!!!
