Hello :
Here is where I intended to go with the Paper-Model Forum. Guys,Ya gotta look at this thing. It's in the Fall 2019 Damaged issue!
It starts on page 30 and it's absolutely what I was trying to say. You can make a paper model so incredible that most would think, Plastic or Resin?
Please give it a look and at least once try a Paper - Model. I think you would get a new insight into our favorite hobby, Which, is building Models. Remember some are not in the realms we usually go to anymore!
We have ( for ship-builders ) the old go-to's ( sailing ships ) or modern WW-1 and WW-2 warships. Civilian ships. Well there so many Titanics it makes me want to barf! She is not the only passenger ship out there that changed history either! I mean what about the Queens and others carrying our boys out and back. Victories, yeah, late in the war ,But still part of it.
Now then, there is the Working Ships. Not many by my count. Maybe about eleven, if you can find them. All over the place in scale. In some instances I understand why a Container Ship would be 1/700. They's BIG !
Even My paper-Conti-Belgica ain't small. That ship was owned by Contimar if you must know. But see. How about the old Tramp that Bogie appeared on in the late forties . Interesting? you bet. Just before the wars there were spies and sabateurs and others plus refugees sailing in these rust buckets. To freedom . Now true, they are in paper.
Buy one and use it as a pattern and build the thing out of Evergreen . You can build one 1/250 ship or smaller all out of what Evergreen has available and you can use P.E. and Paint too.
Back to that Bulldozer though. On page 31 he has the steps on weathering the Paper Engine. look at it carefully ! Especially photo 1. Talk about detail? As you can see, It's there For you Armor guys, Check out the Tracks and Drives. Awesome, Right ? Photo 8 really caught my eye. Look at all that detail.
Oh, and this. Now I don't normally weather my models much, if I do it at all. This whole thing is incredible! All that beautiful, believable rust and wear. Awesome ! Oh he also mentions along the way what materials he uses to paint and weather said model. pay close attention here. Now where I differ is the glue and the paint for the first layer. I use Craft Clear Spray and it makes the paper very paintable. Then , because I have prepared in advance, I use generic P.E for all the places P.E must be used.
I could go on and on. Just Check it Out, Please ??
