I'm thinking about taking a road trip first of the year & plan to hit up hobby shops along the way. I've done a bit of searching on the net, but am looking for firsthand info.

The best Hobby Town I ever saw is in Kennesaw, GA off Ernest Barrett Parkway. It fills a remodeled movie theater complex. I used to live near there, and spent many hours browsing and buying. I think it is the largest Hobby Town in the country. They had an amazing assortment of anything one could want. (That was 12 years ago, I hope it is still the same.)

Not really. I tend to wander around. I used to set a trip plan but never stuck to it!
Check out RC Hobbybarn in Huntsville, AL-good automotive & armor selection-last time I was in the aircraft selection seemed a bit low. They also carry some accessories and have a good selection of supplies & tools
