The Last Full Measure Movie
Posted by richs26 on Saturday, February 8, 2020 2:53 PM

Saw a good movie yesterday about the 34 year struggle to get Medal of Honor recognition for A1C William H. Pitsenbarger (Pits).  For modelers, it seems that the only copter used in Vietnam was a Huey.  I guess there are not many Kaman H-43's flying anymore.

WIP:  Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo

Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea

Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group

The Huey has to have been the most numerous chopper flown in the Vietnam War, but far from the only type. All four US armed services flew multiple types and there are models of many of them available. I’m kinda partial to the Son Tay Raiders HH-53s myself.

This movie is about a PJ isn’t it?

Pawel, the movie is the Last Full Measure from 2019/2020 about a USAF pararescue guy who won the Medal of Honor in Vietnam.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0783640/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Yes he was. Apparently this movie took a good twenty years to get financed and made. April 11, 1966 the battle of Xa Cam My west of Saigon.

I also am partial to the Jolly Greens. I think there was one at Son Tay.

Yes, one HH-3 was at Son Tay, it was deliberately crash landed inside the compound due to its smaller size, carrying an assault team who lay down on mattresses on the flooring to absorb the impact of that landing. The rest of the raiders were carried in HH-53s.

At one point there was supposedly a movie in the works on the raid, but it must have been sidelined or fell thru.

I remember reading about rotor diameter having to do with raid planning because of the size of the compound. Originally there was a plan with UH-1s, but it was too long a flight and the assault team was debilitated by the flight.
