This is a picture of one of my flower beds. You are probably asking yourself, "Why is he showing us his flower bed?" The answer is below.
I was doing my Spring cleanup of the flower beds this week. It takes days to get these beds cleaned up and ready for Summer. I am 70 years young and every year it takes longer and longer to clean these beds. This morning I was raking the bed when a healthy white guy in his 40's walks over to me and says, "Hi mister, I lost my job and I could use some money. Can you give me some money for my family?" I was in a charitable mood so I said, " I have about four hours of yard work left. If you help me, we can get this done in two hours. I'll pay you $200 for two hours yard work." He said to me, "Work??? I don't want to work. I just want some money." I said, "Is this a '***' SNL skit or is this '***' Candid Camera?" He said, "Oh, so you won't help?" I told him to leave using my best 'steel worker' vocaublary. Can you imagine the gall?
Your comments and questions are always welcome.
Not a bit surprised with what this has done to the economy. Good job by the way on sending him on and that garden is outstanding.
Nowadays? Yeah, I can. $50 to 100/hour, I'd jump on that!
Gorgeous garden JohnnyK, probably good that fella didn't take the job...probably would have "fertilized" the flowers.
Crazy people in the world today.
we're modelers it's what we do
Hey!
You live to far away. Gorgeous Garden. You Bet ! I would help for what you offered and be darned glad you were so generous! I am almost 77 with a bad back. I would at least try !
Wow, just wow.
Now I feel like a cheapskate - I paid my coworker’s son $100 for 8 hrs of HEAVY yard work involving a chainsaw and hauling tree branches 14 feet long (I measured, ‘cause we had to figure how many cuts needed to be made to fit in the truck).
The rate was negotiated (and approved by his parents), but next time I call him over I’m doubling his pay.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
I have a healthy looking brown guy, different every day, come by and offer to clean up my yard, haul trash, dig holes etc. for $ 25/ hr. "Cousins" of a guy I know, so trustworthy.
I'll send four of them over if I can have your address.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Unreal... I'd do it for 2 hours and $200.
That is one of those 'truth is stranger than fiction' things, isn't it?
Lovely garden!
Sounds like the bums at the freeway exits... offer to buy ‘em a meal and many will pass... just want money for meth and/or booze, or whatever their mind bender of choice happens to be...

These bums want money for booze or drugs. Years back I remember my father in law having some homeless guy ask him for money. My father in law told him he would't give him money but would buy him a meal instead. The homeless guy tod him to Fu%k off! This was a good 25 years ago so nothing has changed.
By the way JK beautiful garden.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Thanks for the comments regarding the garden. That garden is the result of 30 years of loving care.
JK..that is an awesome garden! Very nice! $200 for 2 hours of work?! Heck yeah! I would have done all the work for you for $200! LOL! Of course, right now I'd do the work for a couple rolls of TP! LOL!
Beautiful garden! We've had a week of good weather so I've put in the Sring/ Summer vegetables available so far.
Collard greens, escarole, pole beans, peas and tomatoes. Basil in the window.
Squash not available yet, and soil/ ammendment SOLD OUT!
Thats a sign of good mental health.
Keep it up, folks.

There are a pair of men, older father, son pushing 40. Their job is at the interstate exit where Ford, UPS and GE workers get off to go towards their factories.
Right along side the exit are convenience stores, fast food restaurants and a few smaller industries that provide items to the bigger factories. Paper Cone and Emerson are two of them.
Each of these businesses have help wanted signs. One of the small factories has a job fair fairly frequently with big white tent, balloons, etc.
These two guys have been at the exit for the 7+ years I've worked at GE. Coworkers say they've been there for much longer. It's literally their jobs to panhandle at the exit.
They park in a vacant lot of an old restaurant, some say they have a nice car.
Beautiful garden. You made a very generous offer. This guy is super lazy and has zero ambition. Can’t imagine how he lost his “job”.
Beautifull garden. The rest is holly

You have a beautiful garden there. Time well spent.
I will pay you $200 dollars for a personal tour... Just have to wait until Im able to travel half way around the world to see it.
Had a homeless guy asking for change in DC 30 years ago or so. I gave him a 20 dollar bill and he says 'I was asking for change'....gave him a quick headbutt and said theres your change.
Thanks,
John
In about a month there will be a million people looking for help.
Think about what we can do.
It would be great if we could parse the a$$holes from the people who want help/opportunity.
Another story from a mother of a student my children went to school with. In San Diego there's many homeless standing on the medians at stop lights with signs going from car to car. One particulary kind gentle woman I knew had just been to the grocery store and rolled down the window and gave a bunch of bannanas to one of these guys and he says 'what the f*** am I supposed to do with bannanas'. Donate to organizations - never to folks in person - lesson I've learned.
I enjoy gardening as well, that is beutiful. Living in an apartment now I don't get to do much like that any more.
Heck, I can be "close to Chicago" in about 4 hours. Pay for gas and meals, gimme a place to spend the night and I'd help you all weekend!!! LOL
I drove a bus for over 40 years in Mass. One day a fellow driver and I were standing outside of South Station (Boston, Ma) having a coffee between runs, when a beatiful red Cadillac all decked out pulled to the curb and yelled at us to say hello.
There was a couple in this car that we knew, panhandlers for the entire time we had been driving. They had been a daily fixture at South Station...with out the car of course. We were amazed and asked how they coul affdord such a car.
They laughed at us and said we were fools for working, that they averaged $300.00/day between the two of them, paid no taxes, got gonvernment assisatance, and had just retired. They worked up North in summertime and down south in wintertime.
We had both from time to time given them money. We felt cheated.
We now donate to St Jude's Hospital, Catholic Charities, St Vincent De Paul and Wounded Warriors. At least what we donate now, we know goes to help those in need.
When I worked in downtown Chicago there where a bunch of guys that hung aroung the train stations asking for money. Thousands and thousands of commuters would walk by them during the morning and afternoon rush. I'll bet that those guys made a pretty good buck.
About 5 years ago the wife and I were visiting our daughter in Columbia, SC while she was attending the University there. I drove them to the local WalMart and I stayed in the truck not far from the main entrance. Several minutes passed and a new shiny black SUV Escalade with the huge tires and spinner hubcaps pulled up on top of the sidewalk near the main door then this heavy set lady came out and stood by the main doors hassling people for money. And I mean getting in people's faces with the "gangsta" hand gestures while shaking her head at you! Who in the heck does this ding bat think she is?? I called the wife and told her to exit the store by the other doors away from this jerk. I was gonna call the cops but she eventually got in her SUV and left after just a few minutes. And while I'm watching this, a guy comes up to me very cautioulsly holding his hands up and says to me "please don't shoot me, I'm just asking for loose change". I told him to get lost which he did. Folks I'm not making this up.
Good for you johnnyk.
Anyone that approaches me for anything is considered a scammer. It's too bad for the people who are in need. Most are just looking to get high. And those standing in traffic get nothing from me (unless they drove there in a fire truck/ambulance/etc).
I really don't understand how the standing in traffic thing is allowed anyway.

There are the parking lot scammers who claim they've run out of gas and need a few dollars to get home. I usually tell them if they will wait, I'll call the Police and they will help them get home. After all, the police are here to protect and serve! I've never had one take me up on the offer, however.
