Seriously, probably Russian.

The Resolute was in some sort of receivership, being held by it's debtors and enroute to a port for confiscation. The Ven's are spinning some story about a "Bay of Pigs" type operation being conducted, seerms implausible.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I read some of the twitter comments. Apparently, the Venuzuelan navy has resorted to a form of piracy by forcing ships into port in order to rob them.

Reminds me of the Murmansk brushing incident on Down Periscope.

I seem to remember a case were a group of Somalian pirates saw a ship and decided to attempt to board it and attempt to take it over, the problem they run into was that the ship in question was not a unarmed cargo versel but a US Navy destroyer, my understanding is that the pirates did not do very well in the ecounter

Yes, and so the Pirate Code, Somali Edition was amended to read “No attacks shall be attempted on gray painted vessels.”

All kidding aside, I seem to recall that incident occurred in conditions of poor visibility.

Yeah, some of them boat captains ain't too bright.  I remember back in the 80s while we were deployed to Korea for the Annual Team Spirit games we got a report from our base that N.Korea sent a gunboat into Japanese waters. naturally th J.M.S.D.F. responded by sending two P.T. boats to finnd out what what going on.  The gunboat fired on the P.T. boats just before it sank.  Odd how that works.  The Japanese boats had four tubes anf two 40mm guns, one on each end.  No problem.
