Can't argue with that.

If I give away a model that has actually earned a medal or trophy, tghat award goes with it.

Somehow after all these years, they just don't mean as much.  I have ribbons from the war and sometimes we didn't know why we earned them, they just said we were authorized to wear them and make sure we had a set for our dress uniform as well as our standard blus.  They actually mean more to me.  I may not know how with most of them, but I know I did earn them.  Warndering mind time over.

I have many medal from my service days. Some have more meaning than others, even if they are the exact same award. It was what they were for that puts meaning into the medal.

Many of them were the standard "Thanks for being here doing your job" as you depart one fort for another.

A couple came from foreign countries as appreciation for freeing their nation. Both of those were just left on my desk as they came through distribution. Just another "you were here" award.

Some of the lesser awards because of my impact on the unit are the ones that matter most.

Some of the other ones, I didn't even both to wear on the uniform unless I had to take an official photo which required all awards and decorations.

Even at retirement, I didn't bother to submit my final retirement award to be added to my official record. My highest award isn't on my official record, lol.

Because I still build Glencoe and Lindberg kits.

Now that's funny. Actually Lindberg did some top notch car kits in the 90's.

I agree, both Lindberg and Glencoe have put out gems.  Lindberg had nice fifties vintage Fords and their JN-4 Jennie is a great kit.  Glencoes Curtiss Condor airliner turned out great with only minor flash and fills.

It is just if you do not find out from others, you may pick a kit that is a dud- you take a chance.

I recently bought the USS Manchester, Cleveland class light cruiser 1/400 model from Lindberg.

The one that shows it fending off an attack by Japanese aircraft. The ship was launched in 1946...

Open box, close box. Cry. Open box again. Close box. Dump in trash.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

If you enter THOSE in a contest, and place or win, you surely deserve any awards or medals!  Wink

And ya know, sometimes those kits are still the only game in town. And are still fun to build! Let your inner Calvin loose!

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Nope!

I still look at the ones from the Navy and the Corps. Why? I was just doing my job! For being an older person who tries NOT to be a crabby, smelly old person? Nah. That's just Self Respect.

I have been fortunate with health and mental issues. So I will impart knowledge forward as long as I can. Do I deserve a medal? For putting up with the putz's of this world maybe, Nah, I don't have time .

If you think you deserve one you don't.

Now that puts it in perfect perspective.

Give the medal to my wife, she's tolerated me for many years.  Actually supports my model building hobby, often helping, as my old fingers no longer get along well with the smallest fiddly bits.

She's learned to airbrush, does many of her own decorative antique restoration projects. TV seldom gets used now, a real bonus in our lives.

Maybe... and I say maybe... for working on a model kit while on a conference call while working from home.   At least some street cred...lol

Thanks,

John

For not sticking firecrackers inside every kit I've build while I have modelers block. It's very irritating.
