I've got one of the Banner kits, started to do another "As Sunk, circa 1980's" but it kind of got shelved for now with working on the Tango. I had originally planned on doing a set of ARIZONA's in her major configurations, including an "If She had Survived Pearl Harbor" version.
Instead it's the Tango, which is on a slight hiatus waiting on weapons, and the launch of my newest book, for a kids adventure series (hopefully). So, it's a 'pick your battles' situation for my time usage. Between my wife and her condition, the little ranch here, the writing, and some model work, my dance card is pretty full.
"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"
Nah, mostly they are kind of dumb.
So we have lost touch on the BB 39.
I'm still looking for my Stillwell book.
I will give you my Banner model if it's usefull.
You'd be a better builder than me.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Oh, I absolutely believe that Dorie was due honors, He went well beyond his duty in his efforts to help his ship, thus there is no reason to add untruths to the record. That was the source my heartburn. I just really dislike it when the press or any other supposed dispenser of truth goes and spins a yarn for other purposes.
The West Virginia; battleship anyways.
And he was later KIA, so he definitely deserves any honor in the press however factually incorrect don't you think?
His is an interesting story. And there was already a ship named after him.
Because he was a big strong guy, a football player; he was ordered away from his damage control station to help evacuate the bridge of mortally wounded officers.
Good journalism is heading down the tubes as it appears that fact checking prior to publishing is a thing of the past. The press constantly mis-identifies or mis-labels military stuff and then has the audacity to get cranky when you call them on it.
I recall an article I saw a few years back about Doris Miller. The piece had him serving on the USS Arizona, shooting down "several" Japanese aircraft during the attack, and awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Of course it was during Black History month, and when I called the paper to rebut their article, I was naturally thought to be a racist . . . They didn't call me that but sure hinted at it a bunch. And they never printed a correction either.
Somewhat related subject.
We designed a series of display cases in the locker wing of a Div. 1 college football program. History, memorabilia etc.
One object was a football that had gone to space in the Shuttle with an alum who was on the team.
Our display mechanic wanted to borrow it to install.
I told him that he'd need to update his insurance because if he lost it, getting a new one would probably run about $ 285,000,000.

My dad was a plank holder ( I still have his certifcate), from the USS San Juan, CL 54, sister of USS Reno. It was one of originals with the waist guns. He was a torpedo man on his ship. The Reno took a torpedo from a Japanesse submarine and we almost lost her. But she survived the hit. My dad has present memories of San Juan, even the bombing of her at the battle of Santa Cruz in 1942. He was a kid of 19 years. Imagine, they went through so much.
Bit of an unusual story that ends well. The flag belongs to the USN, stealing it I suppose is a Federal offense although that would of course be a "non-issue".
We have a 48 star flag we occasionally flt in honor of my late F-in-Law.
Reno was an "Oakland", the difference from an Atlanta most being the removal of a twin 5 gun position on each side amidships, replaced with quad 40's.
The Pitroad/ Dragon kit conveniently comes with parts for either, and a choice of square or round bridge.
She sank the last major aircraft carrier lost by the Navy.
I read the article in a major news feed this morning and also chuckled over calling it a Battleship. At least the reporter(s) got the correct war. There was another article I read last night about a Korean War memorial being damaged and the end the article stating the Korean war ended in 1945.
Just saw a story on the news that the flag that was in a display case in city hall in Reno, NV was taken. Was flown during WWII.
Was later sent to the reporter that covered the story. Note explained it was taken to protect it from possible flag burners during the protests. City says it will be placed in a more secure display.
Side note was that it was from the "battleship".... USS Reno was an AA CL ( Atlanta class) with triple 5" turrets forward.
