As I recall, most of those metal toy planes were riveted or closed up with an expanded flange, not screwed together. How was that buffalo assembled and do you have the rest of the parts? It's looking good so far.

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

Well this one was drilled and tapped for two machine screws .They were counter sunk so they may be factory.

Cool idea, philo. I think about doing that with a diecast car once in a while. Haven't attempted it yet though.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Well the original paint was heavily scratched so I used a wire brush in my Dremel  to remove it.Primered it with Tamiya neutral gray and painted it Tamiya dull aluminum Model Master yellow and Guards Red.

Very cool project!  I see old Hubley planes at flea markets and think about getting one myself to refurbish.  This looks great!

Along similar lines, go to YouTube and look up "Marty's Matchbox Makeovers".  He's an Australian gent who refurbishes old Matchbox cars.  His finished pieces are beautiful.

Regarding assembly, in the case of the Matchbox cars, the bases were held in place by a form of rivet cast into the car body, which fit through holes in the bases.  This rivet was flattened to hold the base.  Marty drills these out to remove the bases, and then taps them to take a dome-head screw.  I wondered if you had to do that, till I saw your reply that it was already tapped.

Might check the toy collector market.....in original unrestored condition some of those 40'-50,s metal toys can garner a few bucks.

Hi,

That's sometimes the case, but not always, as shown on ebay.  From the looks of it you can get either a semi-rough the Buffalo or the jet off ebay right now for about 10-15$ plus shipping.
