Enemy at the Gates is a pretty good movie, but the book its based on, War of the Rats, is better. Stalingrad is one of those, I'd rather be anywhere else at any time in the world moments.
Enemy at the gates was about the Russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev (sort of - like all hollywood history movies) and the German sniper Erwin Konig sent to take him out during the battle for Stalingrad.
Thanks,
John
"Enemy at the Gates" was about two snipers at Stalingrad. It was a good movie that came out the same time as "Pearl Harbor", which IMO, was not a good movie.
Yes, the pre-Gato "S" boats.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Not a movie, but I enjoyed the TV miniseries Winds of War and War and Remembrance. The main character's son went into submarines. The sub stuff was a pretty small part of the series, though.

I don't get the mag. What scale is that dio?
Dodgy Both great movies TB, but have you seen the movie 'Stalingrad'? Not a sub movie I know, but I think it was made by the same people who made Das Boot. Don't quote me on that. Awsome movie though.

I've always been partial to the big screen reboot of McHale's Navy....

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
Thanks Dodgy;
Isn't that the one about the two snipers? If so I have seen it, if not I'll have to see it!
I really liked that cover and thought the build was superb.
The commander in Das Boot was played by Jürgen Prochnow who went on to star in Dune and a whole host of other movies.
I long to live in a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
I do like the New Cover so much I am going to save this bad boy.
I keep thinking of two movies I have seen that regarded the service of " U " Boots! They were the " Enemy Below" with Robert Mitchum and Kurt Jurgens.
The other was with actors I never heard of But the best darned Anti-War movie I ever saw. Yep, that's right "Das Boot!" ( The Boat) The reason why. In both movies the captain said something in Both of them ( Has this become a standard?) (To The Bottom " ). Just before the depth charges started going Cl---ick BOOM !
The cover remindd me of the times in both movies when they surfaced to " Air the Boat"
