Our Stash-Where does it go when we Cross Over?
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Monday, February 8, 2021 7:31 AM

Hi;

No, I don't want to get Morbid here. Just the Facts . Many of us Pass without a Will. Those who do are not necessarily covering Everything either! There-in lies the problem for those left behind. I don't have a will yet. I am still making one out. It changes almost every six months. Why? Well it's the acquisition of Models and Tools is way ahead of the inventoried list!

This was NOT intentional. With models coming as gifts and rare purchases the count changes on a Bi-Annual basis. Same for the equipment to a point. I have two Tool-Boxes full of Model-Master and Regular Testors Paint. One smaller one, full of Now Tamiya and Vallejo Products. So. Here's the question. What have you done to ensure they get to where you want? You can procrastinate or just have a Garage sale.

The other Method is easier. Leave a Registered Letter in a  Fire-Flood resistant, safety Box in your office or Bedside table. Make sure the specific person you designate knows where you keep the key. In this letter be generic. You know." I So and So do designate and desire the named person Below to take  charge of my MODEL Stash and All related items ( Tools and Paints Etc. ) and Remove them To The Largest V.A. or such facility that will accept them for recreational Therapy.

If a Family member should step forward to make a valid claim for the material this gets priority. Otherwise the above is what is to be done. No strings, No argueing. Just load them in the car after making the phone call that finds this material a home.

There See? It's not that hard. Built models can be, if accepted, given to the appropriate Museums or Display Venues. You have to be realistic here. Some of us do create everytime or from time to time museum class models. They should be seen and appreciated, But here's the hitch. for instance. I built a model for a Venue. Very Expensive I might add.

Ten years after the fact they re-modeled.The Model and it's very Expensive Case (A piece of furniture created for this model.) went into storage. When I called to ask if it was still there for a friend going there to see,  that's when I found out it wasn't being used anymore. I was then asked if I wanted it! My reply was "Of Course Not" " Your venue paid me Five Thousand for it" It belongs to the corporation"!

I recommended two Museums that might accept it. I do not know of they did that or just Gave it away or just Dumpstered it! So think about what I've said. Think hard, then " Do the right Thing!

A good friend, who helps me with hobby issues, who is an internet re-seller. If I kick off before I'm 100, he gets everything, stash, tools, paint, to do with as he pleases. If he makes money selling the kits, all the better.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

It will probably just sit in the basement until my wife passes, then I don't know what my nephews will do with it,probably just dump it,maybe give it away, but I'm the only one who knows what to do with them,us it's not a huge stash only 30-40 one of the advantages of not having an out of control stash.

Same thing with the completed builds,if I go 1st they will just sit, they are out of the way,so there is no big need for her to dispose of them,so I think she will just leave them.

Unless her new husband doesn't want them around Indifferent

The point would be that you should not leave a burden on survivors with your junk.

They’ll follow us to purgatory. At least we’ll have something to pass the time.

All my completed WWII models go to the museum. The guys in the club will get to divey up all the rest of the models (built or unbuilt)(if they want them) and the tools. Anything that's left, the wife can do with as she pleases. I'd like to take a few with me to work on up thereAngel(hopefully that's where I'm going) if it's at all possible. Going to be up there a long time, or so I hear.

Interesting post and idea, Frank. Food for thought to find somebody who might appreciate the stuff one day. Thanks.

Mine either goes to another member here, if my lady can figure out how to get it to him, or my club to sell off for the treasurery.

Mine will be buried with me in a tomb in the desert like an ancient Egyptian to accompany me in the afterlife. Whistling

Just kidding. I'm sure that my kids will likely try to sell the unbuilt kits and throw away the built stuff. Their bigger issue to deal with will be with divvying up the legal items that can no longer be discussed on the forum here.

We had an individual here that passed away last year that had a huge stash. His wife worked a deal with the local hobby store owner and he had a sidewalk sale. Not sure how they worked the proceeds.

That's what wills are for. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you got a good one in your earlier careers.

Stay bsafe.

One of my clubs collects the stash from the widow, if she wants, sells the stuff, and gives her the money.
