That reminded me of a meme I use at work sometimes...
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
Yeah, I remember the olden days when online forums were the happening thing and the interface was basic looking but highly functional. Guess we should be thankful they haven't cut off the server and kicked us over to a Facebook groups or a Reddit board.

stikpusher It's too bad that there does not seem to be the ability to quote multiple posts. One could answer several posts more easily that way in one post.

You can open a reply, get the quote, copy the text back the page up and paste on a reply with another quote. I think.... Not terribly efficient.
Or edit the multiple quotes in:

Don't look now, but there's a ship modeling question in the General Modeling forum...
Its a good point Don. I have recently started to use it for just the clarification purpose you pointed out.

I have been thinking. The FSM forums do offer a wealth of features, and it does take awhile to learn how to use them. There is a help section, but that is meant more to ask questions rather than giving an overview of useing the forums. I suggest FSM create a file containing an introduction on using the forums, and when a new user first registers, they are guided to this file.
For now, I recommend everyone at least once scroll down through the forums list to see how many there are. Particularly, look at the Tools, Techniques, and Reference Materials Section, and try the Painting and Airbrushing forum.

I can see that we miss features - I only recently learned that there is a preview feature, for example, after 14 years of using the forum. But features like that are implemented in this forum in ways that are counter-intuitive or obscure. Like the ability to highlight text and quote it, as Bill has shown us. The "Add Quote to your Post" button is pretty prominent. A forum member has to be focused like a laser on adding a reply, to miss it.
Rob Gronovius Don Stauffer Using the quote button is so easy, why not use that feature? That's a bridge too far to expect its use; we can't even get members to post airplane questions in the aircraft forum and armor questions in the armor forum.

Well, I hope most of us can learn new things if we are aware of them.
I usually use the quote feature if I'm responding or adding to a specific part of a post someone made, but as far as other people using it or not using it...either way it doesn't bother me. I like to read through threads sometimes anyway just so I can get some context on what is being discussed. Also try to trim down the quote and remove photo links just to keep the thread space consumption down.

Nice!
Guilty. I know I have certaintly done this in the past. I recently discovered that quote button and have been using it. Sorry boys.

I find it a bit annoying. Posts get compounded. I only quote when something significant is in the text.
Thanks,
John

GMorrison I accidentally discovered the other day that if you highlight the part of the post that you want to refer to, and hit quote button- only that part gets quoted

Don,
Maybe they don't know how to use the quote button feature? Heck, I just learned something new from GM!

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Sometimes people respond to previous messages in a thread without using the quote feature. They may say, as Johndoe said above, ...
Unless the Johndoe quote was the very last message, we have to search for that post, and if they had posted several times, figure out which post is meant.
Using the quote button is so easy, why not use that feature?
