yeah the mods there are quite anal retentive. They deleted a thread on the death of Rush Limbaugh even tho NOTHING political was said.

To mention a particular chain of art supply stores, I just write, "Richard Blick".  The nannyware will asterisk it out, otherwise.

Heh...even they have changed the name of their store to just Blick.  Still have the old name for their web address though.

Yeah, I saw "Blick Art Materials" on the site.  That's sad.

We have a local undergrad college, outside of Philly, that used to be called Beaver College.  Coincidentally, it was a women's college till 1972.  They changed their name 20 years ago, to "Arcadia College".  I thought that was lame, that they should have embraced their history.

That just reminded me of the joke from "Austin Powers", from the alternate endings:

"Tired of the teasing about her name, Alotta Fagina had it legally changed, to...Sandy, Fagina."

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

Don't forget the ever-popular *** Tracy.

Somehow, Richard Tracy does not sound right, for a detective.

I built that tubular space car thing from this detective series, an old reissue by Polar Lights. Yeah, it blanked out the first name.

So, good question and one that new members often ask.

The reason, as stated by the 'moderators' some time ago; is to keep down the heat in inter-member flame wars.

This forum is the only one I spend any time on, anymore. Sure, there's a couple more, one cooking and one gardening, plus some religion related ones. But when the moderator is a Father, things stay pretty calm if the poster isn't a troll.

Even Next Door eventually went to hell when product influencers and political misinformation operations found ways into it.

And of course the last point is, "their house, their rules".

I was banned once for good, and when I did get back, I had a completely different mindset about being a member.

Yes, some probably still think I'm a *******, but at least I try.

Hi Barob!

You Know the last thing I need, Having had a varied career that also required teaching the language and it's shortcuts is an Electronic Nanny! The words are there in many Comic Book collections and Newspapers that still occassionally run those old strips!

It's not the moderators, it's software that does it.  Some call it "nannyware".

C'Mon ladies and gents!

There names out there that were never considered a Bad word. When they are used in context you star them out. Why? They are NOT presented in an officious or Cursing manner. Steve is never starred out and it is a shortening of Stephen or Stephan! Why did you do this with the shortened name for Richard?

Gosh, when I was a kid I was NEVER called Gary! I was called Gar by my friends. What's the big deal? English and it's use was not, nor has it intended to be insulting to those called by those shortened versions. Get A Life !! Would You !

Take the folks Cooper or Smith! Where do you folks think those names came from. It wasn't their real names back then. It was because of what they did. Smith came from Blacksmith and Cooper from Barrel Makers. Check the history before you anger someone by blackening out or starring out a perfectly legitimate name !!!
