Started a new job today
Posted by Glamdring on Monday, August 9, 2021 9:11 PM

After the only job I had ever held since my working life began was eliminated last May, I began the next chapter today.  I hesitate saying the name of the company now, as I haven't completed my OpSec training module yet to know if it is allowed, but I will say it is a vehicle supplier for the US military.  The highlight of my day was seeing the production line through a window in a sales demo room and the parking lot full of desert tan vehicles. (I am in the finance department, so I wasn't allowed on the floor itself) Big Smile

So far, it is a close to a dream gig as I could hope for...though it has only been one day of light training.

Side note, I have a couple kits of their products in my stash, they may get a promotion in the build schedule if things go well with the job!

Congratulations.  Sounds like a great gig.  I have a good guess of the organization - military manufacturer in Wisconsin Whistling.

Thanks,

John

Yeah, a rather obvious hint.  Stick out tongue

Thanks guys, it is just refreshing to get out of the last toxic job and live off a severance for a couple months to recharge the batteries.  I was very lucky to get to do so.

Glamdring, Congrats on the new positioin.  Before I retired, I taught at an elementary school down the street from your place of employment and their vehicles drove by our playground every day!  There is a great Hobby Town down the street and the city where you work has two modeling clubs.  There is also a small hole in the wall hobby shop in a city 15 miles south.  I have the same idea as you about building kits of every vehicle that your place of employment produces.  My stash of them is slowly growing.  Good luck with the new position.

Congratulations; we're happy for you.

Wish I could get a job or something .  .  .  This "Groundhog Day" life I'm living is starting to get real old.

So, enjoy it while you can!!

Thanks all!  First week is done, and still so far so good!  In case anyone hadn't put it together by now, it is the Oshkosh Corporation.

I was just on site for initial training, but I will otherwise be a remote worker.  I wish I'd have known there was a hobby shop there, I would have detoured on the way home!  If I ever head back I'll have to check it out.

I can tell you it's a lot of complex spreadsheets.  I have been doing things I didn't even know Excel could do!
