My dream modeling room is nearly done.
Posted by BrandonK on Monday, September 6, 2021 11:09 AM

In April we bought a home across the state and moved. I haven't built anything since December in preps for this move. Since then I have been completing a 23x23 unfinished basement. I just finished up the work with full drywall, tape and texture, and vinyl plank flooring. ( no carpet monsters here). I am now in the process of setting up the modeling area, 23x13. The rest of the space is storage. I have room to have ALL my kits out where I can see them, room for display and room for my main building desk as well as a 6 foot table for odd projects and another desk for paint booth etc. I have it all planned out and it set up for working seated. If I paint standing like I have before it kills my back.

Before I shared my office with storage and modeling and I only had room to work on one kit without putting one away to get another out. Now I have several going at once and still have room to work and move. I am beyond happy right now. I will post up more pics as I get this fully wrapped up.

Great looking room. I could spend a lot of time in a room like that. Congrats.

Looking good! I too am in the process of building a barn with the second floor being heated for my office and modeling space. My wife thinks it will just be my office. My office will consist of 1/10 of the space the rest will be my workbench and model storage. Don't tell her though.

I put a similar looking floor in my hobby room/office.  Looks like wood but it's ceramic tile - easy paint spill cleanups!  I'll take that B-1 if you need to clear some shelf space Stick out tongue

Thanks,

John

Congratulations .  What a room.  I'm sure you are excited to see it almost finished.  First build in the room has gotta be the 63 Vette.

Very nice work! Just remember, no matter what the size of the bench and how you set it up, once you start building the models, the actual work space will end up being 12" x 12".Wink

When it's finished and ready to use, are you throwing a party?????????Whistling

That is a wonderful work space!  Looks like you planned things out well and will have plenty of space.  I hope that you'll post more pictures as you complete furnishing it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I will be updating with more photos over the coming days as I get this put together. I am stoked to get back to building.

Slowly making progress. I have my paint station coming along. I used to have all the paints and weathering products on a bookshelf in my office and would have to run back and forth to the garage where my booth was to do anything. Now I have them all in one spot, neatly organized and ready for use right beside the booth. This will be a big time saver and major convenience over how I was arranged.

Also, I have my work desk mostly together, just need to organize a bit and it's ready for work. I have to complete my overhaul of my booth setup, so that will take a few more days. I'll be building soon.

WOW!  I like how you've organized all of your paints and supplies and it appears like you'll have adequate lighting at your bench.  You're almost there!

WOW! Brandon, that room looks outstanding! I'm very happy for you. Like Knox said, I love seeing these modeling room/areas threads.

Very cool! Hope you spend a lot of enjoyable hours building models and listening to tunes in the new "sprue cave".

Aside for the 6 in to 4 in adapters for the new fan at the booth I am up and ready to build. I added an extra 4ft LED light above the booth to give me all the light I will ever need. The duct work is set to just be placed in the window when I'm using it and it's easy to swap it out/in. I have all my paint supplies and AB's in one place near the booth now and that's a huge change.

I also added two flexible LED lamps at the bench for more lighting while I'm working and I have my bluetooth speakers set up so I can listen to tunes or podcasts while I work. The stash is easy to access and I know everything I have without it being an issue like before.

This new setup is truly a dream come true and quite glorious. Even the wife is super happy for me. She never says a word with more kits find their way to the door. Blessed all around.
