Beware when buying Blu-rays
Posted by Glamdring on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 9:07 PM

I recently treated myself to a 4K movie, which includes a bluray and the digital copy, from my local Wal-Mart.  After I get home I slide it out of the cardbord sleeve and remove the shrink wrap.  In what should have been a red flag , I noticed the entire side was already open, but didn't think anything of it because I had seem this before and assumed it was just a sealing defect with the shrink wrap.

I open the hard case, and the digital code slip is MIA.  Upon closer inspection of the plastic wrap along the side that I assumed was a seal defect, it was actually sliced open because I could see the slightly wavy cut and the score in the case.  As far as I can tell, the took the movie off the shelf, carefully sliced the plastic just enough to slide the case out, removed the digital code sheet, reassembled it, and put it back on the shelf.

I will attempt to exchange it for the complete package that I paid for, we'll see how big of a hassle that will be.

So, a word of warning if you pick up any movies over the holiday season, check the packaging to make sure it isn't tampered with!

Same thing happened to me when I bought a video game years ago.  The CD inside the case was a blank CD.  Clearly someone bought the game, took it home and carefully removed the game, replaced with the blank and returned it.  I'm sure this happens often enough that you will get your exchange no problem.

Thanks,

John

Took the tampered movie back today, was told no go.  They will not exchange movies that have been opened.  They had no answer when asked why they sold me one which was already opened.  I was advised to take it up with the manufacturer.  Sigh...

Guess I will be going back to avoidance of Walmart at all costs.

Ouch! I pretty much only order DVDs and Blu-Rays online. I'll be careful to check if I do buy any in person-thanks!

Sorry to hear they couldn't/wouldn't help you out there.

On your reciept, you can usually download the movie from Walmart's account via Vudu.

Usually states something like view instantly from Walmart.com or Vudu.

Step one is to avoid the pit that is Walmart......

I had a simil problem once, back when I used to change my own oil...bought everything I needed to do the change, oil, filter (top of the line FRAM-came in a Pringles style can for 13 bucks), everyth8ng.

get home, lay out all the stuff I needed, crawl under my truck with the wrench and the drainpan, drain the oil;  I go to switch filters, and when I opened the new FRAM, I discover that someone took the thit teen dollar filter and filled the can with the three dollar filter....and now I'm stuck, because I just drained my oil and removed the filter.....

that was the last time I bought my stuff at Walmart without checking first.....and shortly after a ceased all Walmart visitations....

Tough break on the no return/exchange Glam. But at least you do have the disc version and coming from Wal Mart you should not be out too much money.
