Awesome pic Dodgy! Reminds me of a time about 35 yrs. or so ago. Was renting a house w/2 other guys. One of them bought a parrot. For what ever the reason the seller told him to open the cage when in the car on the ride home. Well, guess what happened when he opened the door. Yup, 50 feet up in the nearest tree. We saw it up there and started laughing. Well, he called the seller and he said to try calling it down, no go. He didn't know what to do. He even called the fire dept, but what could they do. He set the cage on the deck in hope it would come back, never did. The seller did end up giving him another bird. One roommate said he saw it a couple times but I don't think it could survive a Minnesota winter. Never saw it again.FYI this was NOT me!
Be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it.
A couple of years ago, I saw a bald eagle come up with a fish in its talons, which was spectacular in itself...what made it even more so was that this happened in a small pond in the middle of Greenwood Village, Colorado, which is where the Denver Tech Center is...kind of a smaller version of downtown Denver.

What do you mean that's all you get !!!?? That's fantastic in itself. When I lived in the city it was just pigeons and sparrows, it must be really cool to see eagles in the wild.
and of course, that's a great looking parrot, never seen one except in a cage.
That's a nice surprise.

Hmmm, I have someone's chicken in my yard. My neighbor asked me about it when I got home from work yesterday. It was on his porch blocking the door. Apparently, it was banging on the screen door trying to get some attention! I "talked" to it this morning, and it came right over, so I know it's someone's pet.
I have no idea what it's story is, but it looked like it was attacked by a dog or something, as its feathers look dirty and ruffled. I don't think the assailant was a cat, because the chicken was fully grown.
I do like chickens, but mostly the fried and rotisserie types.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
Beautiful bird, Dodgy. I love parrots. The little parakeets I've had over the years were great little companions.
About ravens and crows...we have several families of ravens that live on the fixtures for the ramp lights on the sides of the hangars where I work. It was kinda funny watching the hangar maintenance guys trying to deter their nest-building by putting plastic spike strips on top of the light fixtures. The ravens would show up the day those were put out there and either throw them onto the ground, or use them to weave the sticks they collected into them to make even stronger nests. Incredibly smart birds.
Handsome chap there Dodgy, nothing quite that colorful here....our magpies look pretty cool.
Keavdog, have your daughter try a something shiny, cheap fish lure, earing etc, and see if they bring here better gifts as trade. Crows are very smart, Ravens can be trained as pets and will speak if worked with.
we're modelers it's what we do
What a beauty. When my daughter was at Chapman University in Orange County we saw quite a few (100s) of Parrots. Not sure of the story but they just hang out in the OC. I've seen a couple down here in Ramona so perhaps they are spreading. We have a lot of birds out where I live - it's a bit rural. Roadrunners are always fun to see. Saw a familly of Quail running around, crows by the 100s and various awesome birds of prey: red tail hawks, osprey, horned owls, barn owls, golden eagle and a couple that looked like falcons but couldnt be sure. Bird watching may be something do a bit more now that I'm retired. Heck, I see them all in my backyard and have a decent set of image stablizing binoculars which I highly reccomend.
My wife has a group of crows she feeds. The show up almost daily and make themselves known. She puts a couple piles of unsalted peanuts and they swoop down and grab them. Smart birds if you ever care to read about them. They have only brought her one present - I piece of a broken coke bottle.
Thanks,
Now that is a beautiful bird! It's hard for me to imagine critters like that being common place in the back yard. Thats a great picture too, thanks for sharing.

This is a male King Parrot. They grow to about 17" long and will eat seed out of your hand. I'm very lucky where I live, as there is an abundance of native wildlife, much of which can often be found in our garden.
I long to live in a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
