Yes, the one inside is the real deal size-wise. It is so big it boggles the mind.  That and the whole display they have of the controller that IBM created for it was really interesting. I'd wished we had had more time there but my original reason for going was that they had an IPMS junior modelers show there that weekend.

In Huntsville, I mean not the museum.

A bit of history, the Saturn V standing outside is indeed a model.  It was constructed in 1999 and the actual Saturn V (which was a test vehicle) was moved inside.

And I thought 1/48 was large.  Big Smile

And by contrast, just how small the capsules are - especially if you go back to the Gemini and Mercury capsules.

Thanks,

John

I was stationed in Redstone Arsenal in the late 90s (Jan 1996-99). I visited the sights and there was a lot to see around Huntsville.

It's well worth seeing if you have any interest in the US space program*. Walking under the Saturn V gives you a good impression of just how friggin' BIG the thing was. Great photos you took of her! And I enjoyed the 'rocket garden' of a dozen or so rockets set up so you could walk around between them.

* They do have a Soviet capsule too. I think, it might be Cape Canaveral in Florida though.

Think in my introduction I mentioned that my kids had bought me the Revell Apollo moon rocket to build as a fathers day gift.  I was lucky enough to be able to travel over to Huntsville recently where the real deal is on display. The location is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. If u have never been and are in this area or will be at any point in time this whole complex is worth a day to explore.

My wife remarked walking through here that I had painted the model the right colors! High Praise indeed.

This being the real thing and not a model I thought this forum would be the place for it.

enjoy
