It would be monumentaly expensive as there is nothing on the island that modern tourist wants. Even water needs to be brought in. The walls are several meters thick, small or no windows, no electricity. It was meant for artilery, soldiers and POWs.
My view is as that of the rest: against it as it feels disrespectful, creepy, wrong...
There is no construction there yet as the survivors, their descendant and the local history organizations have lodged a compalint re development.
Out of curiosity, since you have been there many times, how do you feel about the change into a resort?
Do you have any pictures of the transformation?
armornut A place of rememberance and learning, not a luxury resort. Smacks of disrespect for those who suffered and endured there. Just my 2cents.

Same opinion here, simply disrespects the ones that suffered there just for the sake of making money. Simply shameful.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Nah, not for me. Wouldn't feel right.
I long to live in a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
keavdog I'd say no. Absolutely no. There are lots of places to vacation so why here. There are picnic tables at Gettysburg but my understanding is that these are for scouts or folks touring. Then again you can go vacationing on Peleliu

Peleliu is a little different, people live and work there, just like Okinawa,Saipan,Manila,Guam and others, all can vacationed at.
Thanks,
John
MR TOM SCHRY In my opinion, I disagree with this concept. This facility should've been knocked down or at the very least a memorial erected in its place to state its place in history. Poor decision by some developers just to get rich. TJS

Agree with the thought on developers. The fort is next to imposible to knock down as the walls are several meters thick. There is a big memorial plaque at the entrance to the fort reminding visitors about its history. I guess the local authorities never made a big issue of tourists and local having fun here (fishing, swimming, BBQ-ing, opening a anauthorized food stand) as the island is somewaht off the beaten path, its not that one can just drive to it. But still...
we're modelers it's what we do
I would never go near this place. It might have been left as a reminder of what happened as several concentration camps have been. My Father was in the OSS during a lot of the war and had to go and document the camps when they found one in his area. Most have been destroyed and several of those hav monuments at the site.
Some of other places used for brainwashing/indoctrination have been repurposed or are in the process of having this done, such as the huge complex near the black sea *I think it is). that is being turned into luxury apartments/condos.
Go there for a history lesson, but not for a fun time.
Hmmmm.
I don't think I could do more than appreciate it's history or location. To Have fun? Not the right place. That to me would be like having a Poker Marathon inside the Alamo!
This is a hard question.
As an architect, I have learned that there are certain spots on the earth that inspire us to hold them divine. examples abound, one of which is the Fransiscan mission in Carmel, where I live.
Or the chapel at Ronchamp in France.
In this case I have no clue.
There are ways to make this idea work. My wife and I slept in Tito's house at Bled.
Bad thing?
Gosh no, we met a lot of very nice and concerned Slovenians there who feared the war that came in 1989.
But believe in the human spirit. If this is a bad idea, it will fail. A good idea, it will survive but I would not count on it.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
The little island of Mamula is an uninhabited island at the entrance to the bay of Kotor in Montenegro. During WW2 it was a concentration/POW camp. It is popular day trip destination with locals and tourists, I have been there many times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamula_(island) So, how would you feel spending a holiday in a place where many were tortured and killed if it is converted into a luxury resort?
