Just what the title says;
Here in New braunfels ,Texas we have a lot of these stores. Some sell real Antiques and others are just High Priced Indoor Flea markets, labeled as "Antique" Stores. Well I entered a new one figuring to run across the gamut of old and out production models if any.
Imagine my surprise, On a shelf with other boxed model Railroad stuff was this little Ziploc bag. With some familiar looking model car parts. I carefully reached for it and discovered, for me, anyway a big surprise.
How many of you remember the Very early Monogram Models? Do you remember the original version of the Midget Racer? In this case a bright Red pair of body halves soild plastic Wheels and Tires Molded as one piece each half( Wheel and Tire together).
Then the Windscreen as a flexible little piece of clear plastic. Closed hood( No Engine here and all the tie rods and other stuff ( Exhaust etc. In Metallic looking medium grey!) The Decals were wrinkled and unuseable. (The instructions were there such as they were).
The driver figure was all there too. Being molded as halves with seperat arms. (Hollow sided at that.) Oh Yea,h that's right too, No Legs! he sits on a plank of plastic you put in the cockpit just before joining the body halves, just like Aurora Planes!
Sorry! couldn't pass it up! Figuring an outrageous price like many of the other stuff labeled as toys, I was surprised at the Five Dollar plus tax price tag!! So now, to finish up, I am the proud owner of a Very Early Monogram car kit. Minus the box. Oh, by the way I found a box in excellent condition on "The Bay". Guess what? The box was fifteen times the cost of the model!
Well, this is it. Five Bucks and a rare model. I don't need no Darned Box! So There! No, I ain't gonna build it either!
