Anyone else having a problem with "Pop Up Ads" appearing with monotonous frequency on this site lately.
Just interested to find out if this a Fine Scale Site problem or my server.
I've never had a problem here on FineScale; I just use the blocking features of my browsers (Firefox and Chrome), no specific add-ons. Also, when I'm logged in to my company's network, we block some things at the network level.
Till now. Not for FineScale, but over at Hyperscale, since the start of the new year, there has been a video player popup. It plays news clips, and I had seen it previously on some media sites, like sites belonging to smaller newspapers. The popup is a minor irritant, since you can click to close it, and it closes if you navigate from one page to another.
However, this was the first popup I ever got, working on my company laptop, logged in to our network. Adware ratcheted up the popup/blocker arms race. So I have installed uBlock Origin's extensions on Chrome and Firefox, and that seems to have stopped this latest one. I'm watching to see if it has any other impact on my browsers.
So yes, you might need to install a blocker, for your specific situation.
