I have never actually had any real expeience with the UN troops but from what I have seen or heard on the radio and TV, they did come off as mostly useless. I was kinda of thinking that if they were between both sides mabe the involved un coiuntries might make someone think about what would happen if their people actually had to do something, besides retreat that is. I submit to your greater experience about them.
I know of a some islands in the Pacific that would make a good location for the UN to sit around, and they are nowhere near Hawaii.
Nasser infamously bullied U Thant into removing UN troops from Sinai in May 1967.
It's a credible theory that Israel might not have conquered Sinai in the following month if the U.N. had remained.

ikar01 Here's a thought, let's have the U.N. post troops between NATO and Russia until this thing ends. If they get hit what would the U>N. do? Would Putin take that chance?

For what it is worth, my experience with UN troops in ex Yugoslavia was that they were totally and absolutelly usles. Keep them away from there. IMO, the conditions for deploying the UN troops should be that both sides have to agree to the ceasefire and the UN troops have to be back up by overwhelming firepower of artilery, bombers, tanks etc. They also have to have authority to open fire without asking the UN for permission, showing proof that they need to fire etc. Remember Srebrenica and 8000 executed civilians? It happened because the UN was totally usles. I also saw them in Dubrovnik, always in bomb shelters.
And yes, Putin will take a chance. Actually, there is no taking a chance. What will UN do? Protest? Complain? Pray for peace? They are totally impotent good for nothing unless they have king size teeth made of iron and willing to use them hard.
Now where would you find 1/350th scale fish? Or...maybe a scale Kraken would do.
I seem to recall that way back during Vietnam, before some of you were born, Nixon mined Hiphong harbor and trapped several Russian ships that had to stay docked until the mines were removed by the U.S. Navy finally removed them after the war. And there were reports that migs were being flown by Russian pilots back then too.
Backin the old days NATO had all sorts of weapons and equipment near their border ready to go if necessary. Here's a thought, let's have the U.N. post troops between NATO and Russia until this thing ends. If they get hit what would the U>N. do? Would Putin take that chance? Maybe, maybe not, but he already is threatening all sorts of people with undisclosed types of attacks.
Sounds like a great idea for an aquarium ornament.
"You can have my illegal fireworks when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers...which are...over there somewhere."
One thing I fail to understand is the Russian position telling the Ukrain Government that you cannot attack anything outside of Ukranian territory and cried foul when they hit a fuel storage facility just inside Russia; but they can attack nearly anywhere in the Ukrain from outside the country, according to them, .....with impunity.
I also laugh at the double standard of Russia telling NATO that they cannot provide aide to the Ukrain any longer or they will be punished. We could go back to every major conflict that NATO countries participated in and see that Russia provided military aide to NATO's opposition every time. I also seem to recall a time when Russia greatly benefitted from American generosity in WW2, and that was OK; such a pompus double standard by them, it is laughable.
I guess that goes with the Russian stance that they can attack ANYTHING and raze it to the ground while killing every living thing and cremating any evidence then denying it. While I understand that EVERY country that engages in war will have some uguly things they do if you dig deep enough, but what is going on in Ukrain is shocking beyond belief. It may have worked 80 years ago, or even in some smaller conflicts, but Russia can no longer say; "I didn't do it, you didn't see me, and you can't prove a thing". It seems technology has eliminated that option.
Makes you wonder what might happen if NATO really supplied Ukrain with the full array of offensive weapons?

I said this before someplace (I'm on several different forums), but frankly speaking, the rooskies don't place a high factor in the material condition of their ships. Additionally, their crews are primarily conscripts, so they don't have a great 'want' to save their ship. They just want off when the #$#% hits the fan. It's just a self-preservation thing when you don't have a 'part', or 'investment' in the whole thing.
Ha Ha ha , thats brilliant - nearly fell off my chair laughing
There is a good reason some military objects shouldn't be named after major/capital citys or countries. Germans got it and renamed Deutscheland to Lutzow. "Sir, we lost Moskva" just sounds so bad.
This kit should be easy to build. No instructions needed.

To be fair, the hit might have been so catastrophic that there may hardly have been time for effective damage control. It's a good subject for a diorama, though.
No that's not it,they were planning to make an artificial reef.
Russian sailors evacuate warship after Ukrainian attack
She's a major unit,almost 13000 tons,that's a big feather in their cap,and a hit to Russian naval prestige.
