Wish more people would donate to these museums. They are fantstic. Its sad that this can happen. The Sullivan family gave so much for this country .Hopefully some big corperation will step in and take care of this ship.

This is the down side of trying to preserve ships as museums. Like vintage aircraft, they require constant preventitive maintenance ... and admission tickets and T-shirt sales seldom raise enough to even keep the lights on. I donate what I can, when I can, to various ships, aircraft museums and groups, fully realizing that it's a drop in the bucket. We should all try to do our part when we're able, because "someone else" ain't gonna' step in.

Too bad they can't call in Navy Divers, or us old retired types (unfortunately I don't live near Buffalo); it would be a fun salvage project. The big issue for using volunteer divers would probably be the insurance issue.

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

We've lost a ship.  DD-537, a WWII Fletcher class destroyer.

Like all ships, she needs constant upkeep.  Hope she can be raised.
