GMorrison

One time I answered a guy advertising kits somewhere like ebay.

He lived in the same area as me and invited me over.

He had picked up a mass lot of over 3,000 kits from some sale.

There were kits floor to ceiling in every room of his apartment.

His wife was sitting in the kitchen and wouldn't even look at me.

I think I bought 5 or 6.

Bill

What are the odds he's still married?Hmm

Rob Gronovius

Yeah, my stash is probably in the six figure range! I've cut back on getting kits and have traded/given/sold more kits than have acquired in the past several years.

I donated a large box of 1/72 scale aircraft to a school teacher (school employee of sorts), who was trying to start a model club for the school. Must have been around 20 or so older fighter kits.

Wait,what? Six figures? That's over 100,000 kits !!!

Is that right Rob,in your possession now, where do you keep them,?

Interesting stats.

I presume the actual numbers are a LOT higher, since not everybody posts on Scalemates. But I'll bet it's a very good representation of the percentages!

Stash (40-50)

Wishlist (N/A- I don't buy kits anymore)

Completed (100's but I only have kept 10 or so)

Started (10)

Kind of depressing.

I used to keep up with my stash and completed on Scalemates, but I kind of slacked off and haven't kept it up to date, but I did a quick count.

On the bench: 1 Tamiya P-38

Completed in possession: 100

Stashed: 36 kits, not counting figures.

No shelf queens:

I don't have a big wishlist,maybe 2-3 right now.

Scalemates Stats

I was poking around Scalemates and ran across global stats for the site

Managed on Scalemates:

» Stash (2,648,643)

» Wishlist (1,124,603)

» Completed (320,484)

» Started (86,013)

» For sale (47,479)

So we have 2.6 Million models, we want 42% more than that to get to 3.8 million models.  Or my guess, we will always want 42% more models regardless of the size of the stash.  Stick out tongue

We have built 10% of our stash completed/(stash+completed)   Huh?

We have started 3.2% of our stash  Indifferent

These numbers are why we see so many new model manufacturers and kits - we have an insatiable demand.

I compared that to my specific numbers:

Stash (162)

Wishlist (N/A)

Completed (74)

Started (9)

And I'm doing better than the base.  I have built 31% of my stash but have started 6%

Shelf queens:

1/25 Trumpter La France fire engine

1/16 Verlinden Bandits! 2 O'Clock B17 Gunner

1/48 Hasegawa F-14A

1/350 Minicraft Titanic

1/32 AMT Anakins Pod Racer (the queen of the queens Time)

On the bench:

1/12 Tamiya YZR500

1/20 McLaren MP4/7 Honda

Just started (base coated cockpit black)

1/48 Tamiya Rufe

1/48 Tamiya P-51B

I usually have 3 or 4 kits going at a time.  Perhaps I make one of those a shelf queen.  Idea

Thanks,

John
