This is not an economics forum. While plastics, and therefore plastic models, are a petroleum derivative product and rising prices affect all of us, this is not the space to talk about gas prices, oil drilling, taxation, or whose fault it is. There are business sites dedicated to those issues. Please take your questions, concerns, and comments there. Let's stick to scale models here.

How much of the price at the pump is from taxes?

The reason for gas prices is NOT POTUS. Never in the history of the US has it been.

The reasons are basically 4.

1. Access, lease, crude oil transportation and recovery costs.

2. Physical refining production costs.

3. Distribution to pump costs.

4. UNFETTERED price GOUGING by oil companies, resulting in RECORD PROFITS.

Those 4 things are why.

Cheers, LeeTree

Yep they want to make(almost force) people to change to electric. All these enviromentalists dont understand the true importance of oil.

Yup, and they don't seem to realize that the batteries in EVs don't magically materialize to be delivered by leprechauns riding unicorns.  Those batteries are made through strip-mining the materials needed, and just as an example of how fossil-fuel dependent that process still is...a Caterpillar 797 burns diesel fuel at the rate of about 3 gallons per mile.  Not to mention power grids that are already struggling to meet demands, along with an ever-shrinking availability of the minerals needed...many of which are having to be imported from increasingly-hostile countries.  Just seems better to go back to finding ways to make internal combustion vehicles more efficient, which would also lower CO2 emissions due to the more efficient use of the fuel.

Heh...also not too crazy about the possibility of a thermal runaway with a lithium battery just a few inches away from where I'm sitting.  What do tanker trucks with the fire department usually carry?  Not anything that's great to use on an electrical fire.  I'll just keep feeding my 2019 Durango R/T until the illusion is finally seen for what it is...and it looks like that's already starting to happen.

Yep, they want to make (almost force) people to change to electric.

That's was exactly my suspicion once it got past 3.50. I don't want an electric computer on wheels.

I've sat home for the past two weeks and probably won't be going uptown for at least another week.

ikar01  Yep they want to make(almost force) people to change to electric. All these enviromentalists dont understand the true importance of oil. They try to blame the conflict in Ukraine for rising cost, but thats a bad excuse, most oil for america comes from Canada and Mexico. Anyway hopefully they come down soon, but until then transport cost will go up and businesses will suffer, all while petroleum companies double their profits.

I remember the fuel and energy shortages of the 70s, it wasn't fun.  Of course you could buy a brand new Mach 1 Mustang for almost nothing because nobody could find the to run them.  Gas lines were long with rationed guel and some stations just shut down.

Someone wants to get rid of oil and gas but most people don't realize how many products are made from petroleum.

Rising cost of everything has definitely caused us all to make some decisions, some more drastic then others.Im thankful that I have the ability to deal with this,it has to be a real crisis for those who were already struggling to make ends meet.

Sad when the only thing they need to do is drill baby, drill. All they have to do us announce changes in regulations and new drilling, and the oil prices would drop,we've seen it before, and once gas and diesel drop, other stuff will follow, although I'm not so foolish to believe everything will come all the way back to the way it was before.

Well, rising costs cancelled my planned trip to the Nats this year. The wife and I had planned out a nice road trip to visit folks we know and places to see on the way to and from Omaha. But with fuel costs as they are now and likely to be by then, that was scrubbed.

As far as having to go back to wood modeling, not a worry here. I've got my stash. And I'm sure that I'll manage with some form of glue and paint over the rest of my life.

Hi!

Here's one for the books! I ordered some Spray paint for the project I am working on. I canceled the order when they told me the cost per can. I had convienently forgotten. Well, I put Half of a Tank of gas in my 2008 Jeep today. $57.62 for Half a Tank!!! considering the cost of fuel, it's no wonder Hobby paint supplies are pricing themselves through the roof. There is still a chemical tie in to oil by-products with spray cans and some bottled stuff.

And it's considered a luxury line of product! Plastic is too. Resin is close and the only thing that is climbing slower is wood. Are we going to have to step back in time and do wood models again? painted with house paint? I wonder!
