I live in the Chicago area. It is almost impossibe to buy an Idaho potato. The Jewel Food store (largest grocery store chain in Chicago) that I shop at has not had an Idaho potato for a month. I was told that the 2021 harvest was not very good due to poor weather and that the potatoes are sold out. . The 2022 harvest has not started.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

I'm a born and breed " spud" , North Idaho, all our taters came from home gardens or grocery store...most commercial " Idaho potatoes" come from Oregon,West of Boise.

But keeping in line with the jib of the thread... baked , fried, mashed Au- Grautin, in a summer salad, potatoe saladStick out tongue,  butter dour cream, onions, baconbits. Beyond that I am a true omnivore that REALLY enjoys a big ol' Ribeye. Like everyone else I should watch my diet....from plate to mouth.....but heck ya onky live once....here anyway.

The first time I went to Ohio, I was thrilled out of my mind that you could order tater tots anywhere!  I LOVE tater tots.  But the number of morbidly obese prople there (2007 IPMS Nats) shocked me, so I ended up ordering tater tots only once or twice.

HEY, I AM FROM OHIO!!.....But true. I'm considered anorexic at 5'10'...165. And I love Tater Tots! But baked, not deep fried anymore. The Ol' Fry Daddy is gathering dust in the cupboard now.

Hi TB! Guess what? I'm 1/2 Irish & 1/2 Italian. Absolutely L-O-V-E potatoes and pasta. Any kind or shape. But it's not the food but the amount that'll git ya every time.

HooYah Deep Sea

Funny this thread should come up this evening as we are doing New York strips and baked potatoes for dinner tonight.

Throw some greenbeans in there and that's one of my favorite meals!

Thanks,

John

I appreciate any potato dish, and I cook quite a few.

Whole fingerlings tossed in EVOO and garlic, then roasted.

Medium sized reds, boiled just until tender in their skins, then flattened and roasted with same as above.

Mashed yukon golds with roasted garlic cloves.

About the only ones I don't eat are the big steakhouse russets with all the trimmings, but they taste really good.

Speaking of steakhouses, as much as I love a big steak I realize that they are bad for me so I tend to avoid my beef that way.

Being of Irish descent, I can't pass up a spud... never had a spud dish I didn't like.

Thanks,

Potateos

Come on, now, TB...I saw that, and thought you were talking about some new...weird...sandwich cookie! Big Smile

Big spud fan myself, any style, any cooking method. Life's too short not to enjoy 'em, as with all things, in sane moderation. Yes

Meat and Potateos? WHO ME??
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 3:54 PM

Yes!

I purposely mispelled Potato. Those particularly starchy foods are NOT my favorites! Why? They have to have a tendency to Broaden my Horizon. I worked hard and long to get below Two Hundred Pounds, Well, actually Two fifty! I love MEAT ! Be it Chicken,Pork, Lamb, etc. Lamb? Yup ! I like my Gyros and other Greek stuff Too Much!

Here in TEXAS I have yet to find a properly prepared Sicilian style Meal. So I go Mexican or Tex-Mex. This tastes close but then no pasta. Gotta have my pasta! Now back to those innocent, Starchy Potatoes, Don't get me wrong I love them. But not so large I get three meals out of one stuffed with everything but the kitchen sink.

There's a place called "Spud Ranch" Great stuffed baked Taters. But There's enough for Three in my reduced amount diet. Reduced? Not Really, just sensible. For instance a Small( tennis Ball) sized baked Potato, Squash or Broccoli as sides and a Six ounce rib eye. is a big meal for me. Remember, our bodies are like fine classic cars, You get to much sludge from not changing fluids enough, and they don't run right!

When I was a young un, OOH, that was a while back, I could devour an 18 ounce steak, a Large Baked Potato, Three Six ounce sides and Dessert too! Problem was that with the larger the meal, I didn't realize that I was suffering the larger Body too. Six Pack? Well, at one time, Then an Eight pack and so on. When I had my Cardiac Surgery I weighed 257 now I weigh 191 and dropping.

Pretty soon I will have to get some new shorts. I wear the light cotton ones and "T" shirts mostly and I have just about cinched the waist band as small as it was designed. Yes! even in the cold weather!  Walking five or six miles makes me Hungry, So I eat Strawberries and other fruit. I love to Model and Scratch-Build, and I told my Son that he will have to stay out of my stash until I turn125 then he can have at it. There is so much beauty out there and so many nice folks I just can't get enough, KnowhatImean?  Eat Sensibly and Enjoy!!
