I enjoyed almost every minute of my military service and I would return to active duty in a heartbeat.

My service was not bad until the Cuban Missile Crisis.  I sat in an underground launch center with two live armed ICMs.  I was not afraid for myself- I was probably in the safest place in the world.  But I was afraid for family.  There were plans to take them up into the Sierras, and I was very concerned that they would do that in time.

As a tank platoon leader during the Cold War, I knew that we probably would never make it to our tanks, let alone to our defensive positions if there was a "no notice" attack by the Warsaw Pact forces.

Our barracks would be targeted and hit while we slept.

If we had an idea they were coming and were able to disperse into our German Defensive Positions or other remote locations, we would probably be overrun by Soviet tanks when the French decide to nuke us all.

I would do it again, however I would like to know then what I know now....my outcome might be WAY different. For the record honorably discharged after 7.5 years EAOS. Was young, dumb..... all I wanted to do was say " I fix jets in the Navy" ...anyway getting off track. I would stand shoulder to shoulder with any vet here. Thank you brothers and sisters.

You are very welcome. I am not sure what the future is going to do but I feel bad for the kids and in my case  grandkids will have to deal with. To bad my generation didnt take care of this stuff when we were in.
