What TV/Movie vehicles from 2022 would you like to see produced as a scale model?
Posted by Tim Kidwell on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 11:36 AM

Hi everyone!

As we get ready to head into 2023, and I look at taking some time off for the holidays, I thought it would be cool to find out what TV/movie vehicles you saw in 2022 that you'd like to see made into a scale model by one of the major manufacturers.

I'll start things off--and I'm sorry if I'm being predictable here: Luthen Rael's Fondor Haulcraft from the Star Wars streaming TV show "Andor."

What vehicles would you like to see that appeared in TV or movies in 2022? And they don't have to be limited to sci-fi.

Nice! I think there was a coversion set at some point available from Lone Star Models to make this heli (or maybe it never made it to production). Anyway, a full kit would definitely be cool. Didn't this one come out in 2017 or 2018? Wink

Those are cool guys!

I don't really watch TV anymore and the only 2022 movie I've seen is 'Everything, Everywhere, All At Once'. The only vehicle I remember from that was Joy's busted-up rusted German car (it was either a BMW or a Mercedes, I can't remember which).

Not sure I want to model that one though....

Looking forward to everyone else's picks!!!

Maybe I'm not following the rules again, but a modern F1 halo car would be awesome, especially the 2022 F1 champ Max Verstappens Red Bull car.  I mean I did see it on TV in 2022 Big Smile

Thanks,

I don't really recall anything from this year that really stuck out in my mind from this year that I really wanted a kit of, but but after seeing Devotion a few weeks back I wouldn't mind a repop of a 1/700 scale USS Leyte and 1/72 releases of the Bearcats and Corsairs with the markings of Brown and Hudner.

I am sure there is something interesting in Avatar that would catch my eye, but I haven't seen it yet.

As a figure painter, I would be interested in busts of characters from 1883, Rings of Power, House of the Dragons, The Northman, and All Quiet of the Western Front.

That totally qualifies. F1 is always a good call.

I could swear I remember seeing an early 'E' model Sabre, or was it a Canadair Sabre 2, with the slatted, narrow chord wings and the "V" shaped windscreen somewhere.  Maybe it was a dream...

Haven't seen 'Devotion' yet but I like where you're going Robert- those sound really cool!

And I've been pretty burnt out on SW since the prequals but those are both really cool looking ships and ground cars.

In a simular vein Cyberpunk 2077 came out what- two years ago I think? But I just finished up the game first of this year so I'm going to count it in here. I'd go crazy for a model of the bike I used in the game...

Holy wow! That's hot. I played the pencil and paper RPG back in the early '90s but haven't played the computer version yet. Netflix dropped an anime-style show for it in October I think. Captured the feel of the tabletop game really well, I thought. And this bike would be excellent as a scale model.

Suyata dropped a 1/12 scale cyberpunk-style bike recently--not the same, but it might scratch an itch.

Academy has announced a 1/48 F4U-4 "Chosin Battle" that from the box art will have USS Leyte markings. Cant say if they'll have Brown or Husner's markings, but at least from the same air group.

As for myself, I wouldn't mind seeing Mando's modified Naboo Starfighter...

Cool Tim! Never played the tabletop game, a little Shadow Run but never Cyberpunk 2020. And I don't have Netflix so I haven't seen the show.

But the PC game is fantastic. It was unplayable when it came out but CD Project Red has patched the heck outta the game and when I played it ran fine. I've heard the console version aren't that stable though.

Looked up the Suyata kit and that's cool! HLJ is out of stock on it though, so who knows when they'll get it again.

I haven't been watching much TV this year, and have only been to a couple of special screenings of anime movies (Macross Plus, Spirited Away, Gundam: Kukurusu Doan's Island, and Nausicaa).  I'd love mainstream kits from Macross and Nausicaa, but both came out in the 1980-1990 period so they don't count.  There are kits from the Gundam movie, which did cone out this year, but most are Premium Bandai Exclusives, so it's exorbitant price city for us outside of Japan.  Tongue Tied

I tend to like stuff from the older 1980 properties.

That would be cool. We've seen a couple of niceLu finished 3D-printed models at shoes, but I'd go for a Bandai 1/72 scale model of the fastest ship in the Outer Rim.

I'm under embargo (can't say what I've been told or by whom and which company) at the moment, but some of your anime model vehicle wishes might come true in 2023.

Speaking of German cars in TV shows, do you remember the short-lived series, "Tabitha", a "Bewitched!" spin-off starring Lisa Hartman as Tabitha Stevens?  It aired in the late 70s.  She drove a Volkswagen Thing, the upgraded civilian version of the old Kuebelwagen.

Great thread, Tim!  If we had a Like feature, I'd click Like! Wink

I'd like to see a model of Serenity from "Firefly".  There was a short-run resin kit, and there is a board game that includes a small resin model as a game piece.  But I'd like to see a new kit, whether injection-molded or in resin.

I'd also like to see pictures of the Alliance cruisers, just the models.  You can't really see that much of them in the series.  And the models might have been CGI, too.  But I've never found any examples.  The ships were huge, and they looked like nothing so much as floating city blocks of skyscrapers.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

My spies tell me that new Nausicaa kits might be on the way, as 2024 would be its 40th anniversary.  They might be from Aoshima.

From Macross Plus, Hasegawa did 1/72 kits of the VF-11, YF-19, and YF-21 in airplane mode, and had announced a robot mode YF-19 about 20 years ago, but nothing came of it.

If we are allowed to wish for kits from old properties, an accurate 1/72 Aliens Dropship tops my list.  2nd would be an injection molded 1/72 Gunstar from that lovably goofy movie the Last Starfighter.  3rd would be a 1/72 Bandai TIE Bomber.

There are many dedicated Browncoats, and I like the Serenity a lot.

Something more recent because is ended in January 2022, but along the same lines, is the Tachi/Rocinante from The Expanse. There's so much there, from rock hoppers and ice haulers to racers and capital ships.

This is something that I've been saying for a while--more RECENT Dakar (and rally endurance race in general) please. Zvezda did release a 1/35 scale KAMAZ-43509 in Red Bull livery, but that is a fraught subject, and we won't go any deeper than to say it exists.

(Fair warning: Before it starts, keep any Ukraine/Russia comments out of this thread. I do not want to see anyone posting whether they'd buy said kit or reasons why. Not the point of this thread. Please do not respond to this warning, either. No need to express solidarity or disapproval. Keep to the thread and its spirit. Sorry, Castel, for feeling I have to put this in my response to you. Back to the thread!)

As an aside, I think models of Rocket League (what I call "soccer car") cars would be cool as an entry-level kit series. Not strictly 2022, but they're always updating, so I'll give myself a pass!

Pawel has a project model bashing a Ukrainian Field Ambulance. I'd like to see an update from him.

I'd be up for some form of Ukrainian rocket artillery.

Otherwise, my wife watches a lot of Hallmark which means I do too. They sell a bunch of nice diecast trucks, but those are built up.

When Avatar came out 13 years ago, I was expecting some injection molded vehicles, and perhaps animals and characters from Games Workshop.  They do astonishingly good fantasy kits, with excellent engineering/molding and literally razor sharp detail.

I liked the big gunship the best, although it had a lot of impractical features, like missiles that fired through the lift fan air stream, and the silly twin cockpit.  The small size of the lift fans would have resulted in very high ground pressure in low hover.
