I prefer to think that they have built majestic ferret temples (whatever those may be) in which to enshrine these mysterious artifacts. They await the arrival of the powerful deities 'Revell,' 'Airfix' and 'Tamiya,' whose names-of-power have been seen inscribed on the occasional mystery-bit which turns up. 

I glued the fake vents on a '68 Dart hood one time and have never seen it again. How do you lose a whole hood? 

My wife is very good at finding my lost parts,whenever something goes flying,I call her down and usually she will hunt it down.

   Thats hilarious Rob... maybe I should get a tub of random parts for an offering.

I have a clear container that holds mysterious parts that I recovered from the floor while looking for another part that I just launched.

I had a stainless steel landing gear strut do the *ping*.  Never saw it again.

Years later I cleared out my room to have it recarpeted, and remembering the landing gear going MIA, I carefully scrutinized everything as I was moving them out.  I even peeled back the old carpet to see what was under it.  Still nothing to this day.  I did make a new landing gear, but cutting and shaping SSTL was really tough.

I also lost a small amphibian from an Aurora Prehistoric Scenes kit when I was in grade school (the salamander thing with the boomerang head).  It never reappeared either.

I recall a scene from Ren and Stimpy, where they go to a dimension where all lost left socks go.  There must be a parallel universe where all model parts lost to the carpet end up.  Gosh, I would hope it's not that one in the Marvel Universe, where the Red Skull hangs out.  If you want your part back, better just contact customer service.  It's not worth the life of a loved one!

I think every modeler eventually realizes that as a group we somehow tend to attract random interdimensional singularities that float around (and under) our workbenches, kitchen tables, what have you...just waiting to swallow up those pinging parts.

Sometimes those parts end up, oh, I don't know, somewhere in the Crab Nebula or on a planet populated by sentient ferrets on the other side of the galaxy -- who no doubt gaze upon those mystical objects in proper wonder, and amazement.

Just occasionally they will actually return...but never to quite the same location where they actually dropped. 

   Putting a 1:1 rifle together, was trying to put the forward pivot pin detent and spring in.....PEW....off to never never land, that is until the sensational nose and ears of our GSD located it hiding by the front door. Gotta love nosey critters. Later figured a redneck too and completed my build.

John3M - losing a part in a carpet: happens all the time! Ever heard about the so called "carpet monster"?

Finding a part: now that's a cool story! Very nice of the cat, too!

I never have a problem with Flying parts, no no no..... not ever.

About twelve years ago I was working on a German E-10.

I had the gun mantlet securely mounted on a paint brush handle working with added texture and before my very eyes   ......... without warning.......

What thaa......!??   

Apparently my part had teleported itself into a different place and time in the future.

Last year, some 12 feet from where I was working and in a corner of the room where I never venture, I saw a wallet sized photograph laying on the floor that had fell off the bookcase. I went to pick it up and there was my part, slightly stuck to the back of the picture.

     If that's not the Philadephia experiment, I don't know what is.
