I Wonder!
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Saturday, May 27, 2023 8:47 AM

 Hi Ya'll!

Listen, This is just conjecture. Have any of you dealt with those listed in the back of Fine Scale who buy models? The reason I ask is this. As you all know My health did a Flip Flop and this has cut down dramatically on building. I need to remove quite a few, (Ow that Hurts!) from my possesion, But, there's two things here to consider. They may Not be the most popular or the best made. But many are boxed in original boxes, Most open!

At the age of 80 I don't want to leave a big mess for someone to clean up behind if I get that call! I don't want to be Greedy , or let them go for Nothing either! I have at least three large standard U-haul boxes of cars, some started(Paint Etc.) Most not. Ships and Planes the same. So, What I need to do is have someone look at this stuff and tell me what they are worth.  I can't carry any thing over ten pounds so going to a show as a vendor isn't in the picture. I would keep a few and that is a surety. That goes for Cars and Planes too. Certain Ships especially.

So, my question, who is the most trustworthy, fair and honest, when it comes to that, do you know? T.B.

Seeing how your lifting limitations come into play, is it likely that any of those FSM buyers will handle the boxing and shipping for you?

Have you considered listing the kits your thinking of selling on ebay or another hobby forum that allows sales by members?

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Can you out a photo or two of your stash? We can have a look. And maybe buy some.

Personally, I would contact model clubs in your area. There will be modelers who want your stuff and want to make sure the kits get to those who will take enjoy them.

They might buy some outright, donate some to be used in the club raffle at local shows, use some easier kits as a "make and take" to get younger modelers interested, etc.

I just don't want mine to end up wasted in a landfill. I'd rather my prize build be used as someone's paint tester than to just be tossed.

LionHeart Hobby in Kyle, TX (not too far from the OPs location) offers a consignment service.  Ask for Rudy.   This mode may allow you to receive a larger ROI on your item than selling it through a club

One of the vendors at this summer's IPMS Nats in San Marcos, TX - also near the OP - will be Rare Plane Detective.    They buy stash collections.   Go with a list and see if they are interested.   The downside here is you may receive only cents on the dollar -- but it is all out of the house.
