Yay, Keavdog!

That Higgins is the other of the pair that saw Battle in the Pacific and survived W.W.2!

Sounds like a great place to visit.  I was in New Orleans for a work function and made it over to the WWII museum years ago.  Great experience - I was floored sitting there looking at a real enigma machine.  They have Higgins boats there as well.  They were built in New Orleans.

Thanks,

John

Just a Note!

Whilst my computer was hospitalized my Son(Humper Beam) and I went to Fredricksburg, Texas to the Museum. Formerly known as the Nimitz Mueseum it has now has, as the heading shows changed names. He was extatic in that displays have changed as was I.Plus many of the smaller displays were blank showing upgrades were definitely ongoing. The super part? How many of you ship nuts have seen a P.T. Boat up close and personal?

Well, let me tell you, I was Quaking in my shoes, as this exhibit had been closed the last time seven years ago that we went, as a matter of fact there were two displays that I don't remember, the P.T. and a T.B.M. plus a Cutaway torpedo of the type the plane dropped, Well ,you could've knocked my socks off. My Son was wondering if The P.T was another(Ya seen one, you've seen them all) Display of an Elco Boat! Surprise, Surprise,Surprise. The boat on display was one of the two Higgins boats to have served in the Pacific and survived the Hostilities and sent back as deck cargo on a transport to assist in the Atlantic if needed.

Nope! They were headed to sales as war surplus and some enterprising eastern folks bought them and completely brought them back to wartime specs. Gotta love war Surplus at that time! The only thing was the torpedoes! She now sports the new lightweight Styrofoam specials. Heckuva lot lighter for sure! You approach her as if you are on the service level deck on her Tender(Like she was alongside) Except she's in a custom made drydock that was built completely for and  around her! She was outstanding! Gotta go see this Museum. They have completely started to upgrade the interactive film segments from all through the war as well.

      Catchya later
