I got stung today!

Many moons ago when I was about 25 I worked on an outside fruit & veg market stall.

It was a hot day so we went and bought bottles and tins of drink, mine was a coke. I took a swig and put it down on the counter to serve a few customers, I picked up the coke and took a second swig and felt/heard buzzing in my mouth, it was a wasp, which I spat out, but not until it stung me. One of the female staff told the boss  about 2.30 in the afternoon and he said OK we finish at 6.30pm you can go to the hospital then! 

The nurse told me that due to the amount of saliva in the mouth they couldn't treat it!

I was fine the next morning with a swollen right side of my face! That was 50 years ago, and I'm still here. I do my model work in a small 2.5 by 3.5 metre cabin in the back garden, so during the summer I tie the door open and open two windows, the bees and wasps fly through! Ah but a pigeon did that a few weeks ago as well!

I bet they do.  We had a swarm nest in the facade around our fireplace chimney on the roof.  I like bees and what they do, but cost me $300 to kill them all.  Wish they just shoo them out, but there you go.

 

  I try to live in harmony with the little spicy sky raisens. I am allergic to something, not sure if it was wasp, yellowjacket, hornet, or a P' ed off spider but about 30yrs ago something tried to take me out.

   Whatever it was hit me in the swirl of my right thumb. Of course it swelled up, then my elbow locked, shoulder started to stiffen.....vaugely remember going to hospital approx 15miles away.

   ER doc shot me full of vitamin B-12,  said it would work as an antihistimine. Well here to tell ya it did. Felt GREAT for about 2hrs then crashed HARD for like 12...beats being dead I guess.

     Never did find out what got me, it was on the ground and had moved on by the time I got back to where I was staying.

Nah ,It went as well as can be expected in such a situation!

OUCH!!!

         We have a standard routine agaimst yellow Jackets andDirtDaubers as well as wasps. The bees? I just smoke them, then move them. I did at one keep bees,(so I know how to move them without harm) The rest get the WD-40 Defense. One soaked nest Lotsa dead stinging critters. You can even shoot them out of the air if they get too close.

          Read the can,  All your pest control sprays have a petroleum base.They cost as much as four times the W.D.-40 does. It's a lubricant and cleaner. It doesn't have perfume(I don't think) And a new can will spray a stream about twenty feet. Just make sure when you get it The can is heavy, If not pick the next one. The heavier, Of course more contents!

         I am sorry you did get stung, Does this mean you won't build another Dodge Super Bee? Please say no! LOL,LOL

Yeah first time that I got stung in over 20 years,weird!

I'm in HVAC and bees love rooftop air conditioners as their home, so we're stung on a regular basis during the summer. I don't mind the initial burning sensation as much as the week long itching that'll drive you nuts.

If you see a guy dancing around and waving his arms on a roof like a madman it might be me...so it's ok to laugh!

There are a lot of beehives in my neighborhood, which is rural county. Some of the bees are docile, some are mean little badstards.

I recently read a book abouit bee keeping. They are pretty complicated little societies.

There's a reason the call it 'sting'!  I've been stung/bit quite a few times.  Having pools in few of my homes draw them in.  Bees, bumble  bees, wasps, mud daubers and hornets are the ones I remember.

Luckily I am not allergic to the stings but it was a pita for sure!

Funny you should mention that. The one and only time I was ever stung -- helping a friend's father tend his grape arbor, when I was in my late 20's -- my literal first thought (beyond "D*mn, that stings!") was "I wonder if I'm one of those unlucky cusses who's allergic" and...hence..."I wonder if I'm going to die...today?"

Obviously didn't happen. Swelled up a bit, didn't even hurt all that much. The real curiosity was that I was never even sure what got me, since there were bees, yellow jackets and wasps, all in the vicinity of those sweet mid-summer grapes!

Glad you're okay! (And kudos on the innovative mower recovery operation!) It often seems Nature has it in for us...but it doesn't always work!

Luckily just minor pain but no itch or negative reaction!

Yeow!  I got stung by a yellow jacket wasp only twice, once as a little kid and once as a big stupid kid.

The second time was entirely my fault - I was throwing sand into the nest!  The wasps naturally swarmed out of the hive, chased me down the beach, and got me in the base of the neck.  Diving into the surf didn't really help the burning pain.  And they were waiting for me when I got out of the water.  

But unfortunately this was all a long time ago, before the Marvel MCU, so I didn't acquire any mutant super powers.  Unless feeling super stupid is a super power.
