Gotta love shipping service logic

Heh...I've always wondered the same thing, but somehow it all works, and DHL seems to be one of the best at it.  I've gotten stuff from Greece in 2 days through them, and the price isn't all that bad.

One of the great shipping mysteries I have always wondered about is how a package can go by normal mail, all the way from Ukraine, to Denver in 2 weeks...but once its here in Denver, it takes another 3 days to get to my house.

The UPS 'Mail Innovations' program is bad about that.  That's where UPS uses the USPS for the 'last mile' of delivery.  Things get shipped to the USPS mail sorting center and then disappear into a black hole of no tracking for anywhere from 3-7 days.  Since UPS successfully delivered it ot the sorting center, they're done tracking it.  Since the USPS hasn't shipped it out of the sorting center, they don't track it.  Makes no sense, and is very frustrating, especially if it's something you are waiting on to, say, get a car back on the road.

I joke that ordering stuff from Summit Racing sometimes arrives before I even finish paying for it online.  They have a warehouse in Atlanta that seems to be a quick jump to Interstate 10, so it goes quickly from there to Houston, then gets routed to our house southeast of Houston.  I can literally order stuff one day, and it's there the next.

Although its been awhile, in the past when tracking the status of some stuff I bought on line I would occassionally see it arrive at my local post office, then be sent off to a regional sorting center, and then sent back to my local post office, and finally sent out for delivery to me.

I've got sleep apnea and have to order masks, hoses, filters and other odds and ends quarterly. Sometimes they ship from Willow Grove and sometimes from Harrisburg. Other times they ship from Milwaukee. When they ship, no matter from which warehouse, they go someplace out west first, sit there for a couple of days, then come to this general area (Harrisburgh), sit there for a couple days then come to our PO and then to me.                                                                  #1 - Harrisburg - I can get there and back in about 4 hours.                                 #2 - Willow Grove - I can get there and back in about 4 hours also.                        #3 - Milwaukee - I get mail and packages from my brother in California in 2 days. One day to our PO and the next day to me.

Uhhh Duuh! Something doesn't smell right here. But, can't do anything about it. That's the way the meatball bounces.

Now I see that Customs has it and it is "awaiting the next cycle". So now I guess I find out how long a "cylcle" is.

Customs, for me, has usually been about a 4 day 'age'.  

I won a car radio from an eBay seller in Pennsylvania; it's not far from Kentucky. It went to Florida and then came back up to Missouri before getting to Kentucky.

And often when I track something coming to me (near Louisville), it will go to a DHL hub in Northern Kentucky (outside of Cincinatti about 100 miles from Louisville), leave the state and then return a few days later. 

Well it went from LA back to Cincinnati and then on to Baltimore. Supposedly it'll be in the P.O. box tomorrow. All in all a week and a half from Australia to Maryland isn't bad I guess.
