Something I would love to do if I ever make it to Europe,enjoy and post some pics

Normandy is definately on my bucket list, but not possible this year. As things stand now, the wife and I are planning on a cruise that will take us there next year. 

I was there in 1989 for he 45th anniversary. Wow, hard to believe it's been 35 years since then.

I remember an American gentleman who worked at the museum that had a glider. He had participated in the D-Day (or shortly afterwards) landings. Of course, I don't know if he really did or not, but I choose to believe that he did.

It was probably the most accepting time of my service in USAREUR at the time (remember the Wall was still up). We were not well liked by Europeans in the late 80s.

That changed later in the fall when the Wall fell.

I would like to go, but it's just not possible.

I'd also like to see the part of Germany my Mother's side of the family came from as well as the part of what used to be Austria where my Father's side came from.  It's now part of Italy, but the area bears has our family name.

That's why I accepted an assignment to Germany as a 22 year old new lieutenant. I was not planning on making the Army a career. I joined the National Guard while in college and expected to continue in the Guard after commissioning.

So, I jumped at the opportunity to tour Germany and Europe at the Army's expense.

We got back from Normandy bit more than week ago, but haven`t had time to post pix here.

We drove allmost 2800 kilometers and I took bit more than 3500 pictures. Mostly details

Trip was amazing!! Hundreds or even thousands of vehicles. People.... everywhere!! Shows, exhibitions, re-enacments, memorials etc. etc.

These gives propably bit the scale:

Air show, held in small willage called Arromanches at the shore. Normally there lives 449 persons permanently. Now there was more than 100 000 people!

Main parachute jump, four Dacotas and twenty modern planes. C-130, Airbus etc. Over 1300 jumpers!

At the Gold Beach, over 350 vehicles on display. Mostly British.

Well, thousand pictures lies more than one word. So here´s some:

Excellent photos, Trabi.  I especially like the ones in B/W, or "before the world was in color".
